To me, the situation remains unaltered. Joe has expressed his desire to move, but that won’t change how we go about our dealings with Sydney. He is contracted for 2020. We will not trade him for a single first round pick. We will not trade him for a 1st and a 2nd round pick. These discussions have been taking place in the background for a while, so don’t believe the narrative that firstly this is a surprise and that Sydney don’t know what will satisfy us for a trade to take place.
The “lifestyle” angle and moving away from the “Melbourne fishbowl” is not the main motivator for this. At the end of the day, this is a 25 year old (26 in 2020) footballer looking for long-term security coming off two injury plagued years. That’s the driver.
The lifestyle is just spin from his manager Don’t think Joe has many brain cell?if Joe come out and say I 'm leaving for the $1,3 million and essendon Don’t wants to match it because of salary cap restrictions ,I can handle with that
Key question to that is, let’s say we don’t trade him, he plays some good footy in the first half of next year, then we put the same terms in front of him as Sydney did, does he just sign?
How ■■■■■■ off about the injury is he?
What does he really think of Worsfold?
Is the Melbourne bubble thing at all real?
And even before those, if we don’t trade him, is there any chance at all he plays good footy for EFC next year? There’s so much we don’t know here.
Agree. Using a fairly wishy-washy reason for it, people see through it these days. Put it this way, if Sydney weren’t offering him a 6-year deal, he wouldn’t be going anywhere. There is no go-home factor because he is from Melbourne. There are reasons why the club won’t commit to him long term at this juncture. There is still a big possibility that he will remain at the club for 2020. He’s aware of that. The club will look to get what it wants out of any potential trade. If the Swans don’t come to the party, no deal. I’m happy enough with that.
To those saying “he’s being paid good money to sit on his backside for the best part of two years so he owes the club” should bear in mind he hurt himself whilst working for the club. He didn’t hurt himself water skiing or whilst attempting a new limbo world record, he hurt himself doing what he was asked to do. Every employer in the land has an obligation to pay an employee if they are injured whilst at work. J Daniher doesn’t owe them anything.
I tend to believe in what smooth is telling us. If we table the same offer as Sydney next year when he is flying. I’d say there is a good chance to stay.
But of course none of us can be sure.
I don’t think there is much to the injury management. It’s the sort of thing that a player tells u how it is. You can’t really scan it you rely on the feedback the player is giving u.
So perhaps he knows he should have rested it. But badly wanted to play
