#6 Jye Caldwell - thru 2028

Phil Davis was asked if there was one player on the GWS list he would give a 10 year contract to who would it be. He said “JYE CALDWELL”
Well I’m sold. Great pick up.

To paraphrase the thread title, who the hell is
Phil Davis?

67 year old English actor. Really knows his footy.

Spot on.

Maybe we don’t deserve nice things…

May just be totally front or back loaded, I imagine we currently have a ■■■■ load of space we have to fill.

How about we all talk about what it’s actually going to cost us to get the bloke to the club?

Port- Fantasia
Ess- Caldwell
GWS- pick 29

Bendigo boy, wants to come to us… Hard, inside mid, who gets his own footy. GWS’s first pick in 2018. Nah, he’s not good enough for Essington.

Interesting that you don’t hear or read anyone having a go at Dustin Martin’s kicking - yet his kicking efficiency isn’t far off Caldwell’s limited sample.

Depends on the list building strategy we’re taking.

I’ve long been of the opinion that if we couldn’t keep Daniher, we might as well accept that the top age group (27+) of the list won’t be winning flags with us and so are completely irrelevant when it comes to list management calculations. And given how much of a gaping hole in list demographics we have between ages 23 and 27, that basically means we need EVERYTHING. Forget prioritising needs, because you’re basically building a list from scratch around the small core of Ridley, McGrath, Parish, Draper and Langford - instead, prioritise getting talent through the door no matter where it fits on the field, and fill the ‘needs’ holes later.

If that’s what we’re planning, and if the talent id brains trust rates Caldwell that highly, the this is exactly the right thing to do. We’ll still have no shortage of early picks (this year or probably next year either)

On the other hand, if the talent id brains trust is a bit lukewarm ‘yeah, he’s not bad…’ but have been overruled and we’re committed to bringing him in regardless of cost to keep the vultures away by demonstrating we’re still a destination club, and intend to import another bunch of recycled blokes to top up and avoid a hard bottom out next year, then yeah, i’m worried. But we’ll have a bit clearer picture of which of those scenarios is closer to the truth by the end of trade/DFA period…

This is what you call an echo chamber…

DE is BS.

Until degree of difficulty can be somehow incorporated, ignore it.

Spot on fella.
No context on whether the kick was under pressure can make all the difference when judging this stat.

So he wants to become like Joel Selwood?

Pick 11 mid in a first round full of good players, cannot get a game in a side packed with high quality mids. If we had not traded our 1st round pick that year we would probably have taken him. Theres a certain symmetry to that. I like it.

Blitz serves the lowest common denominator. @BLOODSTAINED_DEVILS care to elaborate?

I don’t think it was meant that way. @BLOODSTAINED_DEVILS, like many of us, was looking for info on a kid not many of us had heard much about. Saves trawling through the trades and draft stuff for information.

Agree I think it was telling we put money and effort into Caldwell and not Crouch…

is it true we gave him a 5 year deal at 500k?

I dont know much about him, but I’m calling it now: Future captain.

Also he wants to come to essendon so he’s clearly a lost clogger.
