#7 Leroy Jetta

You wouldn't get anything for Jetta because he's an unrestricted free agent, his quality as a player is irrelevant.

If he gets picked up as an unrestricted free agent we'd get compensated. Probably a fourth round pick at best.
it will be higher fog based on last years matrix, first round pick who played 90 odd games, 3rd rounder at least.
I honestly do not believe we will be compensated at all

We will if he signs as a free agent, it's like the MRP, some clubs get unders for guys, some get overs.

Best of luck Leroy…

Can play football but not sure if he can play within team structures if that makes sense.

Who's going to keep Courtney Dempsey company at the back of the pre-season Tan runs?

Do they run the tan on the Gold Coast?

And people wonder why Paddy wants out, ASADA went at him with threats because he is an easy target, his mates are all gone, and the culture that Sheedy built is gone.

small forward

Says it all.

Essendon Football Club can confirm small forward Leroy Jetta will seek a fresh start next season, after both parties mutually agreed to part ways.
Jetta, who has played 93 games in the red and black since being drafted in 2006, said the time was right.
“It is a difficult decision to move on after eight years at Essendon but the time is right to look for new opportunities elsewhere,” Jetta said.
“I‘ve been lucky enough to play under some terrific coaches, including James Hird and Mark Thompson, and I would like to thank everyone at the Essendon Football Club for the support they have shown me, especially my teammates.”
“I‘d also like to thank the fans and supporters. I will always look back at my time at Essendon with great memories.”
Jetta‘s manager Colin Young said he had been in discussions with the Club recently.
“I've met with Adrian Dodoro over the last 3 months to discuss Leroy‘s future,” Young said
“Obviously he wasn‘t playing senior football and Leroy decided it was time to seek a new home and opportunities at another club.”
“Importantly, this decision has not been made in relation to any other matter”
Essendon Head of Recruiting and List Management Adrian Dodoro thanked Leroy for his service to the Club.
“Leroy is a great person and has been an exciting player for our Club over many years," Dodoro said.
“Unfortunately he hasn‘t been able to break into the senior team this season despite playing some really good footy in the VFL.”
“We wish Leroy and his family all the best for the future and hope he finds a new home at another Club in the coming few months.”

So long, Leroy, best of luck.

Sunday Footy Show (Purple & Hutch) tried to link Leroy leaving, with ASADA.

Classy exit by him and his manager to confirm exit wasn't due to any other matter

It saddens and angers me that players are leaving because of the appalling environment created around the club by the media.

Those kind of statements don‘t even work here, by someone who presumably read said statement.
Facts don‘t matter.

Really classy exit by Leroy. Good on him. Had heaps of talent, just didn’t work out. Hope he gets picked up by another club and good luck to him.

Yeah. Usually it’s the same people that only read the head line… But don’t have the attention span to read the article.

At least he had the decency to emphasis that he left due to reasons ASADA aside. Well done to Jetta and his manager for doing the right thing.

Can't blame a guy leaving  because he cannot get a game.

Is there another Merrett?

Perhaps I made my point poorly.

It is a fact that the media has created an appalling environment around the club.

This must be affecting the players well-being & wearing them down.

How they deal with this will depend on a range of factors.

But regardless of any public statements, my opinion is, that when we hear a player wants to move to a non-football state, this is code for 'get me away from the Melbourne media sh*tstorm'.

My anger comes from the fact that the media have largely created the problem and will now gloat about it.

And my sadness comes from the effect on the club and the individuals in it,

Can't blame a guy leaving  because he cannot get a game.

Is there another Merrett?

Nah, but there's another Heppell :)

Sad that Leroy didn’t make it work with us

as he had all the attributes that the team

needs…pace, skill and finishing that we so

severely lack.

The problem that I feel he had was that he

was more an instinctive type of player and

that in the modern day style of football that

requires players to fullfil and adhere to strict

roles and disciplines within the team structure

he couldn’t quite grasp that aspect to take his

career forward.

An example of what I’m trying to say is that

whenever he would stream into goal through the

fwd 50 more often than not he would always look

to pass it off to someone in a better position than

actually use his finishing skills and have the shot

himself. We’ve all discussed this part of his game

to infinity here but I just feel he couldn’t find the

right balance of doing the team things, sticking to

team rules and doing what comes naturally to him

and just going for it.

Sadly this is the part of modern footy which I reckon

is ruining the game today…the instinct and natural

flair of players being coached out of them in place of

rigid roles that they must stick to.Sick of watching

players these days having to constantly second guess

themselves whenever they get ball in hands and then

making dumb decisions and turning it over or putting

team mates under pressure instead of doing what

comes naturally to them.

Anyway that’s what I think has been the issue with Leroy’s career to date, may not mean fark all to

anyone else though.

Last thing, watching The Hangar a couple of weeks

ago with a piece on the VFL which had Leroy

addressing his team mates before a big match, it was

obvious to me that he embraced his leadership role

in the twos and despite any disappointment he may

have felt at not getting more of a go in the senior team

it seems he never let it show.Great attitude.

Good luck in the future Leroy and I’ll certainly miss

screaming out your name whenever you scored a goal

or did something great on the field.

Will never forget his purple patch in '11, nor his ANZAC Day goal which started the run in 09.

I don't think it's good enough for Jetta to walk out on the club. I've watched him walk for 8 years. I want him to tackle someone on his way out. Maybe even exit with a 1 per center or a defensive action. Walking aint going to cut it.

Seems one of the lawyers retrospectively over-rode one of the communications specialists.

Think you need to rethink this post.

Watch Sydney pick him up and turn him into an elite small forward.

Watch Sydney pick him up and turn him into an elite small forward.

Watch that not happen.
