Davey was our other draftee. He was the best of the lot.
If you count rookie picks then still no (Dick, Chatres, Rama) and if you count the preseason draft (Mal) then still no.
Absolute bust (bar Davey).
Sadly, no. Gumby, Jetta, Hislop, Reimers, Davey and Houli I think were the six.
The only player ever to get done for staging!
I think when Leroy was drafted, the game was still played in a way where his flair would have made him a solid best 22.
Unfortunately, that year was also the start of the conversion to what is now "modern" football.
Likely would have been a 200 game gun in the 80's or 90's, for any team he played for.
That's a good point, I never thought of it like that.
Thought there was a year or two there where looked really good, and expected to return and get more midfield minutes. Instead for unknown reasons you drifted into obscurity. Real shame.
I remember watching the final round game against the Bulldogs, i think it was the weekend Hird was announced in - and Leroy had 30 touches in the midfield, in what looked like a fresh start for him. It is a shame.

Never forget seeing these goals in pre-season and thinking he was just going to explode that year. In fairness he was very solid that year.

Leroys manager said that Jetta was really frustrated that he was performing in the VFL and not getting a game. said Bomber probably doesent like him like Hirdy does.
personally think its just that they didnt want to risk another poor performance personally.
i will miss him when he was at his best.
In that game he knows he‘s selling candy; in the rest of them he ate the candy and confused himself instead.

Obviously I can't speak for Bomber, but I suspect that a large part of the reason might be that he's spent a long time now tearing it up in the VFL, and then underwhelming in the AFL.

His ability to move sideways and get around traffic was pretty nice to watch. Another coodabeen and it seems like everyone would agree that we gave him a pretty good shot at it.
Isn't the father/son rule going to be reviewed (aren't they all?)? Maybe they'll make it less games with the expansion club love childs of the AFL.
Be nice to have a bit of indigenous representation for the dream time game, or we'll start looking pitiful like the tiges.
