#7 Leroy Jetta

He was significant in the end of that game …the promise just never materialised …it’s a shame for him and us , but if you ain’t upto it you can’t hang round unfortunately he had 96 chances ( I think) to strut his stuff and we talk about one or two of them …he’s a better footballer than me but just wasn’t good enough at this level . Good luck to the boy .i won’t mind if he gets picked up and stars somewhere else . Not like that other ■■■■

Would be hilarious if we rookied him, especially given the sentiment here and the Ryder situation.

Leroy had the skills, just not the mentality. Will probably do very nicely at the next level down.

He's been no good at the vfl either

Yeah he has

This is my fave Leroy memory. Needed more of this front and square work.

Edit: youtube with time link doesn't work. Starts at 30 seconds, the goal against Geelong.

Leroy got the best out of what he was prepared to give. Thanks for the occasions.

There are some really good highlights in there, but kicking a goal from a set shot is not a highlight it’s a basic skill.

Wish I had all the skills of the afl footballer and the aptitude of a roadside sign holder.

He never recovered from being find for “acting” for free kicks in my opinion.

Hung over him like a dark cloud.

So what exactly are you saying? His natural abilities didn't get the job done at AFL level? C'mon... I'm stoked he played for us.
Even if you weren't a fan, this is the bit after the big game when you've won and it's okay to shake his hand and acknowledge him.

I think Jetta was the perfect example of a young man who has got to AFL football by having a pure nous for the game. Then losing his natural instincts on the football field, from being over coached.

His first year under Sheedy was pure gold.

He got very lost under the Knights’ reign.

Hird worked really hard with him, to re ignite his instinctive football. But I think it was just too late.

I agree with whoever said it was the staging. He was having a good year up to then. Never played well again after it.

Overcoached?

He was not a focussed footballer, primarily he didn't know where to be defensively. That was something the good clubs were doing while we had Knights but we only really started cracking down on a few years into Hird.

If he'd grasped that we wouldn't be having this discussion.

He got a let off for too long IMHO.

When  he's in the game, and playing on instinct, he's a very good thing. But as an outside / forward type there's a lot of the game when you're not involved, and that's just comes down to knowing where & when to run. That's where he fell down.

Will dominate.

Just saying there's 1000 blokes that wish they had the skills and it sucks to watch people that do, blow it.

Cupido like.

If only we could have kept him for 3 more games, at least he could have got 100 games. Missed Father / Son opportunity? ;)

Leroy Jetta is all kinds of awesome

Well, since there won‘t be many more opportunities:
FIRST OPTION, LEROY! FIRST OPTION!
