#7 Zerrett - could double his Crichton/Trevor Barkers by 2027

This could be his best season. Very small sample size but he seems way more in and under this year. He has some team lifting moments.

Stat wise he’s averaging similar disposals and efficiency. Always been an accumulator with good footy smarts and polish.
But
Contested 12 per game
Clearances 6 per game

That’s more than he’s had previously. Inside game to match

Whoever hasn’t seen it yet watch Buckley’s interview with Zach. Our captain is rolled gold…

Where can one find this?

Do you have Kayo?
If so it’s this week’s episode of ‘Face to Face’

Merrett is the best since hird.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind.

Every season he impresses me more and more in so many aspects.

Leadership, foot skills, vision, quick hands, tacking, footy smarts, drive and determination.

His tackling since becoming captain has been elite.

hes severely unhinged, and might actually pull this club out of its mire

Thanks and to @James98 as well for the link. Will give it a viewing today.

Just finished watching this interview. Geez it would be great if he was able to finish his career off with a flag

Merrett has been leading by example for years. At times he has been the only one capable of matching it with the best. He is now getting solid support from many others who are lifting and ready to follow him.

He’s developed into one of those rare players who has gears.

Knows he doesn’t have to do it all himself these days. At times you can see him just withdraw a little to make room for teammates and improve balance, at other times he inserts himself into the game with one or two decisive acts.

Lots of praise from King last night for the captain

Footy media always give thier flowers for guys like Botempli,Cripps etc its time that Merret gets the recognition he deserves

Cant remember which qrt but there was a stoppage and you saw Merret shouting and barking instructions

He has grown into the role of captain

its hard not to respect someone whos making a contested difference, as well as being elite at applying pressure, whether we win or lose. merretts set the standard, its up the selection committee to apply the accountability for players not matching the effort output

Yes, i agree. Merrett is the best we’ve had since Hird/Lloyd.
He has already gone past Watson.

If he plays 20 games + this year he’ll end up with another AA and BF.

We are witnessing a generational talent that comes around every 20-30 yrs.

it seems very poignant that he spoke a lot about seeking guidance external to the club, apart from noting the leadership style differences of hepp and job.

I think your inference that our leaders over the last 10 years have collectively been …… not very good.

Watson and Goddard aside imo

Hepp is probably a better leader than captain

Other than that I don’t think there has been much there…

Anyone got a clip of this?
