I think Merrett is under appreciated in the wider footy community because he’s small and he’s in a terrible team.

By small I mean he isn’t 6ft 6in and isn’t a ‘beast’ who barges out of contests like a Cripps or Bont. However, not died Daicos and that’s why I think it’s also being in a crap team.

Brownlow? Only if Essendon wins 11-12 games or more. He will need to get 3 votes more often rather than the consolation 1 vote in a losing side. Nick Daicos, a competitor for the award will get more access to potential 3 votes by virtue of his side winning more games.

Merrett is also not showy. He’s more like a warhorse - super reliable and efficient but not flashy so he flies under the radar. As for the Brownlow, I know it usually goes to players in successful sides but back in the day, players like Trevor Barker and Kelvin templeton won Brownlows in poor performing teams. at least Zach hasn’t got anyone in his own team taking votes off him.

I dont know why its taken this farking long for the AFL community to give this guy his flowers. hes the best player weve had since Hird. And yes, i rate him higher than Jobe. He’s a genuine champion of the game, and an indictment on our club that held his leadership development back for so many years.

Mark Bickley doesn’t have Merret in his best 10 players in comp has Angus Brayshaw and Issac Heeney in there.

You cant possibly tell me that those two are having a better year then Merret laughable
