Does that potentially give us pick #1, the say 16 for Merrett, Pick #19 end of first round compo for being ■■■■ then pick 20 for start of round #2. Then possibly #36 the hawks 2nd pick?

Hawks have multiple early second round picks at the moment so will be much higher than 36, think they have 23 and 26 from memory?
Hawthorn’s F1 is likely to be a pick around 23-25, and that is in a draft where 7 of the top players have already been taken out by Tassie. Two picks, neither better than mid 20s, is just not good enough.

Not in my opinion. A real principle at stake and I’m glad we stood firm. Hawthorn made no attempt to bargain or negotiate or come up with an acceptable offer. It was a take it or leave it offer made with 24hrs to the deadline. No negotiation. I’m prepared to wear the consequence of standing up against that.

My principle is to trade out anyone that doesn’t want to be at the club.

The deal gets done this year because Zach is no longer captain, the team are confident Robey and Sharpe can carry the midfield and the fans have had a year to get used to it. Our list management team have also had a year to plan for it.

Which is why all this talk of his trade value is soooo much less is just Hawks propaganda. If anything he is even more valuable as look what he still does when the team super stinks it up. He is worth 2 first rounders every day of the week despite his age. You can see Zacky playing into ages like Pendles and Sidebottom in a gun team.
He’s a year older and next year he walks for free as a UFA.
He’s not worth more than last year.
I know people said he wont get band 1 compo, but surely if would be part of AFL help to us to do an Allan and give us band compo which could be pick 2 or 3 next year for him if he walks. (Not that I want to hold him and will be very grumpy if we do again)
Except the threat of players walking walking for free is very real which is why more and more clubs are starting to move on players before they get into their final year of contract. It’s why a players value also diminishes the closer they get to being a UFA so naturally we should and will get less for him this year
The people are right imo plus that’s before we may possibly bring in our own FA which would then dilute our compo probably down to zero.
Best to get your head around it now, hes leaving this year and we are getting less than we were offered last year.
