#7 - Zerrett - New Beginnings

Scotty is a Hawthorn fan (thats actually true)

It was anything but a dull spool! @Loflyer is incapable of dull spools thank the lord. That spool in particular should be stapled to Dillon’s forehead to save everyone time every press conference.

No doubt the club and players are just getting used to pivoting away from Zach now. Him ā€œrelinquishingā€ the captaincy is a steaming pile. Much more probable was Welshy, Vozzo and co knew he had to let it go and ASAP. This time next year he’ll be training in a Hawks strip, no question for mine and the deal is already being sketched out between us and them.

Scott has imho been all at sea in this situation. His at times cringing public comments to Merrett has been more him desperately holding onto his job. Merrett will do the necessary and be offski come late September.

Like I think @Dasher mentioned .. I’d not want Zach anywhere near development and strategic talks this season now. He’s already checked out of Essendon FC and that’s his choice. He’s unemotional and ruthless in putting himself overwhelmingly first, as opposed to the club and its rebuilding struggle and aims.

Scott has a brilliant clean slate and good young talent to make real progress this season (given a reasonable run with injuries). He needs to do it and get us up the ladder .. otherwise we’re def wasting our time with him.

He made a complete hash of it. This speech should have been done back in November to his teammates before the season wrapped up.

Had he done that Merrett would have been a Hawk, Essendon would have gotten a good deal out of a trade - having had time to work out what really works and a we would have a real leader whose heart is in it lead the club at the best and fairest, through the draft/trade period and on day one of preseason.

This bloke should never captain anything.

In business terms he would be an excellent well paid consultant you could trust to do an excellent job.

But ā– ā– ā– ā–  you would not put him in charge of any aspect of your business.

Has a real ā€œlast wordsā€ air about it, like they cropped the scaffold.

well when you’ve got 6,000 take merchants dissecting your every move making it nigh on impossible to do things on the downlow then of course any move made is going to appear weird to a lot of people.

if whatever in the fkn planes trains and automobiles world that aceman actually does for a crust had podcasts and talkback shows and youtube channels dedicated to it then of course we’d all have very different opinions on what’s considered normal about it.

I think it’s great we loaded up on mids at the draft.

Also hope the club is treating Duzz and Calders very well now with Merrett clearly off.

Managing the midfield is going to be a challenge with Gia heading off.

Brad’s just trying really hard not to laugh at how bad that hoodie looks.

Please don’t apologise. Its highly improbable he relinquished the role. Lets make that very clear. The club helped him save face for the ineviatable demotion. It was extremely professional of our ā€œutterly ruinous franchiseā€ to treat him with the respect many feel he didn’t neccessarily deserve.

But I respect your opinion, I don’t neccessarily agree whole heartedly. I also don’t think all members will be thrilled he is wearing the red and black next season. He may well win a 7th B&F and be a professional but the damage IMO is done. I hope he moves on in 2027.

I guess, I like Brad but he seems like a guy who needs a prod. Like he looked motivated and ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  as all hell when the Merrett Hawk fiasco broke.

As in a boss. I was impressed.

I’m sure he’s not really like that. But I wouldn’t be finding it funny.

He can drop the we all love Zach routine now.

Surely they don’t.

They respect his footy ability to no end - as they should like anyone else in the comp.

But other than that?

Brad thinking, how many different ways he can break him before he goes to the Hawks.

Leave the coaches wife out of it. It’s inappropriate

Lunacy!

Not sure a ā€œmoral compassā€ has anything to do with what generation you are. Most Boomers I know have no morals, and that is why living in the 70s was so great !

VFL / AFL footy clubs have never given a crap about their players. Now they have greater governance, especially on playing boys injured with painkillers.

Good Mate played for the Bombers a long time ago; he was struggling financially and asked for a pay rise of $20 a game. Club said no, and would not clear him to play elsewhere. No contracts in those days, but you could not move clubs without a clearance. So after 96 games and regularly in best players, he had to stand out of the game for twelve months. Our Club is littered with stories like this, they have never had a ā€œmoral compassā€.

I have no problem with Merrett seeking a clearance and no problem with Club saying no. Time to move on, nothing at all to do with morals.

One thing I have learned from this thread today. Who knew baggage handling was such a cut-throat industry?

Has Zach ever worn a red and black mouth guard before?

The photo captures the wall banner perfectly.

$ach taking the feedback to resign.
