On the track Zac looks to be invigorated, the weight of captaincy taken off his shoulders and liking the cut of the new boys. You can see he brings genuine class to the drills at training.

Wouldn’t surprise to see him stay at Essendon Football Club for years.

Reckon it would surprise of lot of others including Zac. End of the day, his professionalism on the field and track has never ever been questioned. He will still give 100% like he always has done, but come first week of September, the trade request will go out. Hopefully he is happy to go to either of a few clubs rather than just 1.

Hawthorne won’t be as appealing next year, could definitely see him wanting to go to Collingwood or Geelong.

Geelong won’t offer the big coin he demands but Cotton on may be able to sort something out with his clothing brand.

Would take a fairly monumental shift, maybe if we have a ‘good’ or ‘really good’ year - Ace I think said he has absolutely no interest in us and he would know. Although the Duzz / Parish? connection may help

Family are all Doggies Supporters, but it will be all about money. He will sign with the best deal. Current belief is that will be Port Adelaide.

Reckon a few things might change that.

. If we make definite progress this upcoming season
. Zach is still determined to leave freeing up a chunk of cap space right there.
. Add one or two others like Gresham, Guelfi or maybe Perko also being let go ..

Bombers could then have the clout to put a massive deal in front of Butters and outbid PA. I hope we pull the stops out and have a go at luring a gun like him.

FYI, Matt Lloyd said tonight his understanding was Merrett told his manager to get him to Hawthorn or he’ll find another manager who can.

His manager failed him massively. He is now stuck with us, potentially for a season we win even less games so presumably will still feel all the extreme negativity that led to him knifing us whilst captain.

Harsh but fair.

It’s his job to know if the deal could be done, and he should have known the Hawks weren’t going to pony up enough for us.
