#7 - Zerrett - New Beginnings

Zach’s manager stood to make as much as $250k on the deal offered. I doubt he was doing anything to convince Merrett otherwise. For all we know he might have suggested/set up the Mitchell date in the first place.

Didnt we ‘hear’ that his Manager had warned Zachie not to go nuclear on EFC, but he chose to anyway? The drug story came from somewhere and his Manager wasn’t present in the room.

I think Zachie might be one of ‘those’ types of clients.

That doesn’t sound like our little Zachie

The expectation management by the manager was poor then. Over all was poor to be honest. I think he ■■■■■■ a lot. Firstly he should have walked Zac back from the do it or your fired and said well this is extremely difficult, so it’s all or nothing fire me know because I can’t guarantee it. Managing client expectations is a big part of his role. Secondly he needed to manage Hawthorns expectation better on price, they clearly under estimated Essendons valuation and that poor for the manager to not establish better alignment on valuation earlier. The third is not getting another club deeply involved early to help with valuation and desires from Essendon.

Maybe he did do those things, and we just don’t know. If he did, based on the flow of interactions, I think he did then very poorly. But from the outside it looked like he thought he could just work with Hawthorn throw over a somewhat OK deal and it would be done. Rather than getting into Essendon early and finding out what it would take to say yes. And when they finally had a what yes looks like from Essendon, there was no time for all parties to get comfortable, so hawks just baulked and Essendon laughed.

■■■■ show from start to finish.

At least we get somewhat of a death ride next year with the Hawks, their first pick is ours

Every year is a Hawthorn deathride.

May they rot.

We beat Hawks R1, Merrett kicks winning goal and clutches jumper, will provoke some interesting discussion ide suggest

And going home with Mitchell afterwards for a candlelit dinner will provoke even more discussion.

Would be pretty funny if he plays at his highest ever level this season tbh. Pretty good odds too

Yep seems on a mission to have a ripper. Pots been well and truly stirred at the joint, interesting to see what the result is on field, not just for him, but for the club as a whole.

Win/win for us. If he still wants to leave and is in top form his market value goes up.

Unless he wins a brownlow, his market value can only go down from here.

The whole thing was poorly managed from all parties involved. Hawthorn are the biggest villains but we could have done more.

Agreed. I should have said his value goes up from what it would have been at the end of 2026 not what he was worth this year.

He finished the season pretty poorly by his standards tbh so we’ll get something decent assuming he wants to go again at the end of the year (barring the unforeseen)

If Zach goes out and has an AA level season, there’s no reason we cannot get 2xFRP next offseason if he still wants to leave.

Yep, probably pick 15 and 17 before Academy bids or similar.

Fark I wish this pri!ck left.

I’ve noticed this guy posting on social media about him playing in the Origin Game (under Mitchell as coach).

Did he ever post a congratulations to Andy McGrath for becoming captain? Maybe I missed it.

Finally gets his wish of playing for another team.
