Hopefully the EFC include a moral compass in this year’s showbag
I was on a self imposed break from here but it just keeps dragging me back in lol.
Thanks for sharing but what does it actually mean. My overriding feeling is disappointment that we again find ourselves here.
Zach’s behaviour has been incredibly disappointing, but why are we here, where is the breakdown? I’ve been hinting at this for months, what people want to believe is their prerogative.
Talking tough is great, but will we act tough? Let’s hypothetically entertain allowing him to walk, will we drive a hard bargain and will it be on our terms or will we walk away? In my own view the deals that are being touted a couple of mid r1 picks and fringe players who are not getting a game is not close. Any deal for me has to include a highly promising young best 22 player, who they will not be prepared to trade.
So for me this is the problem, we will be forced to accept a deal that doesn’t advantage us.
I really need to have a break.
I am going g to speculate that it’s the club equivalent to your mate who has been with a girlfriend who isn’t good for him, and who threatens to leave him whenever he doesn’t do exactly what she wants. Then one day she actually leaves, and after the initial shock he goes on a bit of a bender and realises that he should have got out years ago
What direction did he want? Continue topping up with the likes of McKay and Gresham and playing Menzie ahead of the young stars?
Thats all fair.
The only way we get an overs deal is if he is willing to go to more than one club, or anywhere but Essendon.
Otherwise, our bargaining position isn’t very strong at all as the bridge is completely burned. He can’t come back from both his end and ours, and any club we are dealing with would know that.
I’d be happy with the two round 1 picks personally. No good players will be involved. Tbh, I think that’s fair value.
if that’s true , then I expect that if we don’t even get close to an acceptable trade then he will be able to have a very long and extended Bali holiday next year.
I want to see this ruthless Scott ■■■■ who used play against us and annoy us years ago stick.his head up and make a statement by playing hard ball
This is pretty fair too. The wheel is turning.
How can he be looking about the clubs direction this year? We had blokes playing that were at VFL standard due to the unprecedented injury list. We were tracking ok until those wheels fell off. Yep, club slow to move on Murphy and Co, but they have moved on that and the ship had a chance to start turning. This is when the team/club needed their captain to continue to lead into pre season and 2026. He stated in July he was all in, blah blah blah. 8 weeks later, seeya losers, im off. Move him on whilst hes worth good currency.
The club has heaps of cap room, ‘warchest’ in fact. I think we probably sold Merrett on the vision that we’d go hard at acquiring some top end talent. Instead we had the season from hell and now Draper and Ridley want out.
We’re focusing on youth and we’ve taken a step or two back. It’s tipped him over, and now he’s acting like a prick
no more hacks , no more players looking to top up their super for merret we need a very top level young gun player plus at least 1 first round player . it’s gotta be like for like plus some . seriously if if it’s Hawks like calsha dear or even better one of their top line small forwards , which is what we need plus a first rounder or 2 . it’s gotta be that meaty . we are talking trading one of the top 5 midfield leaders potential browlow medalist in the comp here .
we would do better to trade with a a club loaded with talent . I like the player profile of the dogs players better than the hawks to be hoest , I don’t reckon collingwood
I figured he was the only one in the team who knew how to carry someone given he has carried the club for years.
Let’s see.
Whilst they might get it wrong in the end, you have to hand it to St Kilda who’ve decided they’re sick of being irrelevant. That’s not just in terms of scoreboard. Irrelevant as a club. It won’t cop having clubs steal players it rightly thinks it should be able to draft. It’s taking on other clubs, taking on the league. It’s so brash, it has stolen an MCG home game that Essendon thought it had two years ago. Essendon accepted the AFL decision. Eddie Mac Guire would’ve been furious! All in a competitive and reasonable way. It’s just pushing back where required and standing up for itself to ensure its interests are not being compromised.
Too long has Essendon been a weak and accepting club. It’s got nothing to do with fighting on the field. It’s about standing up for itself as a club. In every sense.
Hawthorn walked all over Essendon this week. Ultimate disrespect but it probably thinks Essendon is so weak it could do so without a whimper from Essendon. Hawthorn in a footy sense declared war. It was as offensive as it gets in footy sense and Essendon had to respond. Essendon’s response was strong but it’s one day!
A weak culture has been infiltrating Essendon for a decade and it’s a task to reverse it. Let’s see.
it’s an unspeakable dog act . I’m seriously thinking he has mental health issues the way he’s gone about this . he is trashing his entire football career and legacy
Or he could have just PMed you @Mendozaaaa
I’m almost of the mind for holding the line at 2 top 10 picks and a sweetener and holding Merrett to his agreement if they can’t stump up. We have bargain bin players but our captain, 7x bnf etc etc is not going to our second most mortal enemy for cheap as chips.
Clubs been an absolute debacle for 20 years so how much more damage can really be done to us?
On top of that Merretts form has been kind of dog ■■■■ through most of the second half of the year
It’s not mental health, that’s my point. Hes a sook, always has been and now has made a very poor, immoral decision. Im waiting for the mental health excuse to start getting oxygen, makes me sick. He needs a showbag with a box of Kleenex, cement and a moral compass
Look personally i think the Saints have tried to shake things up yes but for me they have done the wrong way with having a Shiel, Smith and Stringer moment…. but this time the salaries are doubled which will cripple them long term. They may make finals next year(just) but their ceiling for me is capped and then like how we did it…. whats the point?
With Merrett going to Hawks…is he rated as a worse snake than Daniher? around the same or not as bad as Daniher.
Worse. Much worse.
