#7 Zerrett - Welcome to Hotel California

If he was smart he would fake an injury and kick back

Dramatic and wet… this ain’t the eighties. The club and Zach will move on… Blitzers won’t but Blitzers are middle aged amateur photographers and homebrewers still stuck in the eighties

Stick him in forward pocket see how many he will kick

and ?

they keep having a field day with the drugs saga and a fair chunk of the supporter base wanted a key figure in that brought back to the club for round 2.

the spotlight is gonna be on the club the next 2 years anyway, like trading out merrett would stop that ? it’d be they shouldn’t have let merrett go they’ve really struggled without any leadership the last 2 years.

And I’m right here for it.
The Hird part way less so…

Had a chance to move on with a clean slate and didn’t take it. For what? Pride? Ego? Honestly next year will be an unmitigated disaster and the problem is it could be so bad that other players, who are our future, might want to leave. It will be a circus. This is the worst-case scenario.

Seems a hell of a lot like we tried to move on and do a deal, which is what Merrett wanted, but his ‘ruthless’ destination club of choice decided they wanted to be ‘ruthless’ more than they wanted to get him across.

An extra late future first means essentially nothing to the hawks given how they are currently placed.

Essendon is not the reason Merrett didn’t move clubs.

I still want to know whose idea it was to go the antagonistic route. Was it Merrett himself or Mitchell,Petroro or Morris? It was always going to end badly.

It matters less whose idea it was, ultimately it was merretts decision.

And he chose poorly.

Actually think the way Merrett and Petroro carried on hurt them in the end, made us more reluctant. You can’t give in to that ■■■■. Id be so flat if we had

So what did we get for Zach?

Well he’s a bomber for 2026 so time to suck it up and wish him all the best. I very much believe he’s professional enough to continue performing to his absolute best despite not getting his desired trade outcome.

I’d wager it’s the slimy greaseball who texted Damo Barrett his hissyfit during the last 10mins of trade period

If it hasn’t already been mentioned, nice change up once more on the thread title.

Asking for 4 firsts is dumb from us, No club is ever going to give that

Though it must be said, hawthorn really botched this. You don’t turn an oppositions captains heads who is under contract and not put a really good deal forward. Now whenever they ask a player to join them. There will be significant doubts as to whether they can get it done

Hawthorn need to understand to get something really good, they needed to give something really good. They refused to give any good players or at the very least give us two top 10 picks. They offered us one good pick and a bunch of rubbish

And speaking of botching, Zac and his idiot manager absolutely botched this. They took a scorched earth approach to get him out of the club. It didn’t work, at best it’s now going to be awkward as hell for him when he walks back into the club. At worst, it could be downright hostile

This has probably been asked before, but are we making McGrath Captain now?

The real hero of trade week

In the day and age of NGA, northern academies, father sons… those 4 first rounders aren’t normal first rounders.

2025 picks would be 13-15, 20-25
2026 pick likely to be 16-24?
2027 even worse with Tassie entering.

Not the ransom being made out when people say 4 first rounders.
