That was the issue imo, not the overall number of picks. Pick 10 would have slipped to potentially 14 which is really borderline for a player that could absolutely be the difference between winning your club a premiership. This is one of the worst non-results in the history of trading.

Hawthorn absolutely held back on making a decent offer for a player they want and need.

Mitchell acting the complete dog ■■■■ in winning and dining another club’s contracted player.

Their club and coach shat all over any trust future recruits have in getting deals done.

Merrett has completely destroyed his legacy, exposed himself as an absolute petulant, disloyal piece of ■■■■, elevated himself to the mantle of “worst Essendon captain ever”, cost himself the captaincy of the club and, worse, lost the respect of many players.

Essendon has foregone the chance to jumpstart a rebuild with a strong draft hand and at the same time make a stand about the kind of loyalty we demand from players, in particular the captain.

Petroro has failed to do his job, in the process further alienating both clubs and his client, while dropping incendiary comments further damaging the (now forced and hostile) relationship with Merrett.

Welsh has shown his hand as a delusional “we’re not far off it” clapper. We have learned nothing and will learn nothing in the near future.

Yeah the whole thing has been weird. Hawthorn and Essendon only started talking a few days ago? Surely hawthorn would of asked straight up before trade period exactly what we wanted, and then work from there and do some haggling.

Why did zac’s manager think going the scorched earth approach was going to work?

I applaud Rosa and the club for not wilting and accepting a rubbish deal, it was on hawthorn to come up with something that we couldn’t say no to

This, among the many other brain dead executive decisions the club has made over the last ten years have driven me away. I will struggle to watch a game next year.

People focussing on the numbers of the picks without actually thinking what it could have meant for us. That deal could have meant a potential Sharp/Robey , Cumming, Dovatson, Taylor and Sweid draft haul. Every single one of those player bar Sweid has the ability to be a A grader. Potentially the greatest draft we have ever had as a club.

But no, alternatively we “showed” everyone by keeping a 30 year old who has completely disrespected the club to the point where he can’t even remain captain, and will either leave next year for considerably less or absolutely will leave the following year for free. Zac has dragged the clubs name and its players through the mud over the last month, to the point where his position was untenable.

But again, we decided to show everyone just how strong we are because we didn’t accept a slightly unders deal for him. And yes, that’s all it was, SLIGHTLY unders. It was a good farking deal.
