Unfortunately I feel we are no better from this. In saying that Hawthorn are not either. I am not as pessimistic about trading Merrett next season especially where there is a longer lead time and great opportunity to extract a couple of high end picks in a draft we could use them in. I still believe we get 2 1sts next year, people think that unlikely but hey I think Merrett will hold his value.

Iām 100% certain this will completely blow up in our face in every way including Huswaite turning into a gun somehow but geez knocking back Sam Mitchell today felt so fkn good.

I think the message internally becomes - āHawthorn tried to destabilise our club, and steal our best player - but theyāve only managed to energise and galvanise us. Donāt channel your hate toward Zach; focus all energy on round 1 and letās stomp those ā ā ā ā ā ā ā
Hopefully Zach can in time see that Hawthorne are absolute filth, and were never truly serious about getting him.

Funny how badly Zac and his manager bottled this. If he had given the club multiple clubs he was willing to go to-no doubt a deal would have been done.
But he insisted on only one club and went scorched earth to do it

If Melbourne can get what they did for a disgruntled Petracca then Iām confident weāll get at least two top 10 first rounders for Zac next year. What the Hawks offered this year was crap and Zac should be very angry that he was sold a lemon by Mitchell and the Hawks. To think Essendon was just going to roll over was dumb and lacked respect to a very good player. If Zac wants success he needs to be okay going to a top 8 club next year that offers the best deal.

Obviously our counter to that was absurd but realistically I think Essendon was expecting them to say ādrop the 2027 2nd and itās a dealā. 2027 is a terrible draft year anyway.
15, 28, 21 & 30 for a contracted club captain is not exactly a huge price to pay..

This. Plenty of people on here just want to revert to type and add to the Essendo is a basket case narrative, which is the easy storyline. Zach brought a lot of this on himself the way he and his team conducted the whole exercise was a big reason it didnāt go through -poor old Essington are the easy kill though

See ya Princess. All those players you mentioned are still there for the picking and we still have plenty of opportunities to trade up if we want. The hawks offer didnāt change anything about how weāre approaching this draft or our ability to target future drafts.
