#8 Ben Hobbs

How anyone can say Hobbs is better than Tsatas and vice versa is just utterly bemusing.

One has played 50 games and the other 11.

How do you know and so what if one is better than the other. They are not the same type of player and there is absolutely room for them both on current rotations

Just wish he’d clean his field kicking up a bit. Rarely seems to look and pick a target.

As long as he’s smashing into contests and winning hard ball though he’s watching his keep

Every time a pack on the ground got up off the ground, always at the bottom and last to get up was Hobbs.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your overall point that Tsatas may end up a better player, but Hobbs has played at least a couple of games at senior level comfortably better than anything Tsatas has produced yet. There was one game against (Freo?) 2023 over in Perth in particular where he was our best in a loss and played a ripper game.

Imo, Tsatas is an attacking mid and is similar to Parish. Until Tsatas shows that he runs both ways he is not better than, but different to Hobbs. Both appeared to have significantly improved their kicking, but if Tsatas develops the ability and decision making to deliver to the advantage of our forwards he will be better than both Hobbs and Parish. As for running both ways and aggression Hobbs is better than Tsatas and Parish. I am not Nostradamus, but by the end of the season we will be better informed about all 3.

Who is this Parish person you speak of?

Tsatas has played one really good game this season.
He had a great preseason. Its only Round 5

Parish is that bloke that had 44 possessions and 9 tackles in R10 2022 - incidentally a season that he was apparently not elite (Cos I’m told he has only had one elite season).

Let’s think of it this way. If we get Caldwell fully formed, Durham playing like he’s done the last couple of weeks, the best development outcome from Tsatas and Hobbs, and a completely recovered Parish I think we won’t be complaining.

Gives us options, and a pretty good midfield. Allows Merrett to roam wherever the hell he wants.

I’d also throw the pretty nice form from Duursma along with the reliable Martin in there on the wings.

We may say no to a Reid trade and top up our own talent with high draft picks.

Regardless, Hobbs has grabbed his chance so far and been very nice.

2022 - a season that was surprise, surprise marred by injury. He completed just 15 games.

His possession count is never in question either, he accumulates the footy in his sleep. His ball use and/or impact per possession wasn’t what it was in 2021 IMO.

If it’s a comparison between the two games iam still taking Tsatas game 11 clearances everyday of the week

Yeah, no doubt injuries have really impacted Darcy’s status and I can honestly understand why people let their emotional response to that disappointment skew their opinion of his body of work.

I don’t think it ends up being that way if parish ever gets fit and comes back one probably has to make way

Think you just answered your own question

When Parish is fit? Hasn’t been for three years and is 28. I think that boat has sailed

I agree with you I was in the camp of should be moved on years ago, but I think we are stuck so he will play eventually

Awesome stuff - Hobbs vs Tsatas vs Parish - we have all 3 players so great.

They get whoever is left out of Tsatas and Parish

I like what Hobbs is offering at the moment.

Genuine toughness at the contest, like elite toughness and good goal nous.

If he becomes a Ben Howlett type player for the rest of his career I’d be pretty comfortable with that.

Pretty unlucky not to have 3 goals on Sat night, by a bees ■■■■

Agree - I see what he brings to the side.

Teams need a player of that type, and he can play that role well.

Sure, he can and should improve disposal and decision making and hopefully he and the coaches and other players can help him reach a higher level.
