#8 Jason Winderlich

Do you have details of Jason financial situation ? He has his timber recycling company, but whether it makes money or not, who knows.

Nup I don’t. Perhaps transparency on this point should be given when GoFundMe are opened.

You are a hard person at times

I see no problem with cashing in on the love of Essendon fans when you break your neck and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.

Sure, he might have been able to do this himself, but I don’t get the vibe that he came out of his footy career as cashed up as people expect. He was largely injury interrupted and retired relatively early. The years he played were before the salary cap went bonkers.

By all means make a personal decision and hold off donating if you don’t think it’s justified, but personally I’m happy to throw a few bucks at my favourite ever player who’s going through a legitimately horrific journey.

Obviously the intentions are well meaning and there’s nothing nefarious in setting up the page. However people may well have donated under the impression he’d be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. I’m super happy he’s recovering well and as Lloydy said walking unassisted now.

This might be the most sugar coated understatement i’ve ever seen

He has a family and couldn’t do his day job and health insurance doesn’t always cover the medical expenses.
So they may need some support
He isn’t going back to work any time soon
Donations are voluntary and probably Essendon are doing something to help him out

I’ve already accepted I should have done that. Time and place.

Hand/upper limb function is always much slower to come back. A lot of muscles there to coordinate compared to your legs.
Not sure how much he was on the tools his previous job but he could be pushing it to get the dexterity back to handle saws etc particularly if he’s right handed.

And he isn’t going to have the side income from playing local footy any more either.

fairly impressive to draw ire 3 days after the post

Iirc was coaching?
Would have been getting paid for that.

By the looks of that video, it will be some time before he is able to hold tools in his right hand.
