#9 Dylan Shiel be right, mate - from July 2022

This was their grand final. Trust me they gave everything they got. Remember they really tested the Lions not to long ago. Im typically a pessimistic supporter as I’ve never known what success is apart from a 13-3 start in 2012 or whatever. So I think it was a good win overall, but please Tsatas really does hurt us when we play him.

Where’s this kicking been the last years…?

It teaches them that they have to work hard, train and play better than the senior players keeping them out.

A determined and hungry mindset with a desire to win is better than dropping down the ladder a few spots for a draft pick.

This year even more so since we have Melbourne’s pick.

Being ok with losing doesn’t create a team that can win a flag.

After hearing him talk post match on Fox Footy you want a guy like Shiel in the team not only is he playing some good footy but a great mentor for the younger players.

Was great in that interview, agreed. I’ve changed my tune on Dylan, 2nd half of last season and so far this season he has been a great player and leader.

Good again last night and his kicking the past few weeks to leading forwards have been really good.

It’s just as much of a list management issue as a selection issue. Why draft Tsatas is we were keeping Shiel and Parish

The top sides all have an abundance of players over 30. Experience is everything.
Thatas will get his opportunity when he is ready.

Great to see we have done a great job developing Dylan to be the player he can be. Our development system does work!!

In his 14th year. 7th year at the club. At 32 years of age.

The top sides also have a clear spread of talent across the ground. We have too many resources allocated to inside midfield

He is playing well, however for our long term future- He can mentor in the vfl

We need to be giving his midfield minutes to the younger guys

All we are doing is wasting precious development time

So others are clear, it’s not like we are saying we should play Day-Wicks or a rookie listed player over Setterfield or Shiel.

We’re simply saying that it’s stupid to not give opportunities to a third year pick 5 who the club keeps telling us they rate.

I’ve got another perspective. You only resign 29, 30 yr olds + if there are club champions, real A graders etc.

Essendon as well as drafting and developing poorly just need to churn the list more when players like Shiel with clear limitations are kept indefinately.

Plus Shiel types prevent us from bottoming out and getting high draft picks. Are reason why we keep finishing mid ladder

I disagree. Players play for much longer these days.

The issue isn’t Shiel. It’s that we have allocated too many resources to inside midfielders who aren’t good kicks and we lack class in other areas.

Because bottoming out and getting draft picks is working for North

Players play well with good players around them, at the moment I have no problem with Shiels selection. It will become tricky if we get Tsatas and Parish back. I hope Parish comes back via the VFL.

Five years down the track we will have invested to heavily in small forwards.

Exactly. We have missed forwards and backs and we lack balnce

Apart from Gresham and Kako, when have we invested in small forwards?

Played well again
