#9 Dylan Shiel be right, mate - from July 2022

But he doesn’t and never has at Essendon. Some posters are talking about him like he’s critical to success.

Yep when fit he’s super important and will be picked accordingly

I must have missed all the games where shiel turned our midfield into a September threat over the last 5 years.

The only time our midfield has looked remotely competitive was when stringer and parish were going mental in 2021

Parish circa 2021 was genuine A grade

Can’t wait to see him squib contests and helicopter kick the ball into the 50 straight to Darcy Moore on thursday

Plus just to add on shiel’s performance in the 2021 Elimination final vs bulldogs was a disgrace. Looked like a deer in headlights, you’d expect that from a young player but it was disappointing that it was from a senior player like him. We should’ve traded him last year, there’s no place for him in our new look midfield.

We tried but he failed the afl medical iirc

I think people are nervous about Shiel coming back because the difference between his best and his worst are miles apart and bigger than any of our other midfielders, and we won’t know which one we’ll get on his first game back.

His best last year and throughout his career is a clean, quick, clearance machine and his worst is a fumbly mess that butchers both kicks and handballs, and misses tackles.

I dont think so. It’s because he’s the antithesis of everything which is making Essendon good at the moment, even when he’s at his best.

Also, he is such a short term player with us. He is not in our long term planning.

Why play him?

I don’t think we are crying out for him at all. It’s time we focused on the future. Not has beens like Shiel

how much longer on his contract?

meant to be OOC the end of this year

thank divinity

Couldn’t really seeing him get the call up on that performance. Thought he was a chance at half time but still isn’t finishing games strongly.

But, apparently, isn’t.

must keep protecting the kids

I think he has a trigger clause or something? No one seems to have it nailed down from what I can see.

at vfl level he should dominate. i hope theres no player trigger

Yeah must be, it’s being fairly widely reported these days that he isn’t out of contract until the end of 2025.

Must have hit a trigger along the way.
