#9 Dylan Shiel (Part 1)

Hate to say it but part of me wants to club to be ruthless and offer him up for a trade at years end.

He just doesnt fit our list demographic anymore. We also cant have him taking minutes away from other young players.

could be a dangerous zippy hf

Shiel was good against the hawks.

Probably would’ve looked a million dollars yesterday if he had played.

I reckon our midfield looks far more balanced without him there :man_shrugging:

Adds an extra layer - he’s sorely missed.

Cant kick goals. Would also make a dangerous zippy hb, but not sure he can defend either.

He’s dangerous and zippy, but that’s all…

Do you guys think we could trade him? would benefit both parties trade him to a team in the window and get a first rounder?

To me it all depends on what Merrett does.

If he stays you have Parish, McGrath & Caldwell on the inside.

And Merrett, Langford, Ham & Cox on the outside.

I personally would rather trade Shiel for a late first rounder, and leave these guys to develop more.

Rebounding half back perhaps? I dunno

Imagine if we didn’t give up those picks for him. He makes us no better. That’s the reality. We’d have Dunkley although knowing us we’d have used them on a spud the following year.

Agree, what would we get if he was traded?

One of those picks was Caldwell, who we got anyway, and if Dodoro is to be believed, we would have used our next years first on Harry Jones anyway. So maybe not the disaster in terms of actual results, but moreso in that it delayed an inevitable rebuild by a few years. He doesn’t hurt out cap space at all.

I don’t know if Dodoro really is to be believed tbh, we’d have used pick 9 on Harrison Jones?? No one had him anywhere near there pre-draft.

I’m not serious about wanting to trade Draper. I’m highlighting the stupidity of drawing a correlation between one poor performance and Shiel being out. Using Draper as the example as he’s quite literally never even played in a win, so clearly we are better when he is out.

Look, of course I don’t believe it, but it looks as if we’ve ended up with the best key forward of that draft regardless. So the end result of that trade may not hurt us at all, unlike the picks Saints spewed up for Brad Hill.

But yeah I’d dish him off too. Only thing is it doesn’t really happen often that a club ships someone of Shiel’s stature off by their choice. Almost never happens, except Treloar, and you know how that turned out. If only clubs could trade players without their permission.

Arguably we could’ve had someone AND Jones though. Hayden Young or Sam Flanders and Jones?

We got Jones with the second round pick we received from GWS in that trade. As it stands, who would you prefer, Flanders, or Jones? I’d take the latter comfortably.

Only a poll could definitively decide this.

Didn’t we trade up to get Jones?
