Poor bastard. Rotten luck. And we need him. He’s a great outside mid.
He is someone that I always felt, we haven’t seen his best. I was always waiting for him to break a game open, sadly he never really did. At 28 years, he is at his prime and when he returns, hopefully he will get things going. I wish him well.
If we had a competent forwardline instead of having Daniher + Fantasia out and a decent ruckman, maybe we could have utilised his dominance in the centre.
You do realise Shiel was 4th in the league for centre clearances last year right?
Very far from a bust.
Put him on ice till next year now.
Far from a bust.
great is a massive stretch. he’s been okay, great at times, but mainly- inconsistent. overall he’s been okay, nothing more
he has absolutely not been worth what we paid. look at the calibre of players that get traded for what we paid for shiel, and he’s not even remotely as good as them
I wonder if we had have gone for sheil if parish was played as a full time mid and was a young gun midfielder of the competition in 17, 18.
yeah nah, thats a stretch.
Yeah but is the price we paid really relevant when we got Caldwell from the 2018 draft anyway? We more than made up for that trade by getting Caldwell for the price we did. He’s probably the player we would have selected.
Adelaide paid two firsts for Gibbs.
Collingwood paid two firsts for Beams.
Those trades are true busts. You’d think we traded in Beams with the way some people carry on about the price we paid. Shiel has been great for us. Not his fault our midfield was unbalanced.
That sucks for Shiel. Hopefully we see him at the back end of the season.
The price we paid is consistently and intentionally misquoted in an attempt to pot the club.
He is a meticulous trainer… I have no doubt that he will play before the end of the year if not slightly before the 16 week indicated time out.
Get well soon.
Brisbane with Beams you mean or?
What Pies paid for Treloar was similar & given his injury issues + the exit and what they threw him away for that’s a bust also
I don’t think the Shiel trade was a bust at all not unfair. He was an AA the year before and considered a gun. 2 firsts (that ended up outside top 10) with a 2nd back. And as noted we got Caldwell very cheaply after who was one of those firsts.
What can be said though is he didn’t suit the type of inside mid we really needed but we couldn’t prise/lure Wines or Parker across.
Nah Collingwood gave up two firsts to bring Beams back.
** The Lions traded Beams and two third round picks in exchange for a 2018 first-round pick, a 2018 third-rounder and a 2019 first round pick.**
Treloar is also a good example. Plenty of teams have done worse than us.
He does a lot of nice things that get overlooked because he doesn’t put his head over the ball everytime, he’s not our only mid who picks and chooses when they go though.
One thing we should all know is that we should always expect the worst.
A reputation as a crap destination?
agree. Hindsight is wonderful.
From his perspective he may have chosen another club and we might have chosen a different player.
yes, he’s not on those level of busts for sure
but he’s been great? I don’t agree with that at all. I think he’s been disappointing for the most part with occasional great games. but not everyone sees it the same, thats cool
Probably been touched on, but… where are we at with this bloke ? Is he required going forward ? With the likes of Parish, Mcgrath, Merrett*, Caldwell & on occasions Stringer, AMT, Perkins, Heppell - do we need another runner through there ? Or should we be trying to trade him off… I speak for most when I say he has been far from impressive for us, is the money better spent on attracting more of the younger demographic to the club, and ensuring the youth we have are looked after ? Or if we are concerned with loosing him due to midfield depth, is his money (trade value) better spent on someone like Dunkley ?
