#9 Dylan Shiel (Part 1)

But what if the midfield is performing well?

IMO he should get left out unless there is a clear need for another pacy outside midfielder

If fit I can’t see how he isn’t best 22. People calling him a bust might be right in the sense he’s not the superstar we wanted. But he’s going to allways be better than some of our lessor players.

Bad luck for Shiel but great for our development.

That’s just ridiculous. We overpaid, but he isn’t a bust at all.

He was very good in 2019 and 2020 pre-suspension. He wasn’t the only one that fell off in the hub.

Hope he has a successful recovery in time for the 2022 preseason.

I guess my point was that if the whole midfield unit is functioning well and we are winning games, then even the last selected midfielder would be hard done by to lose their spot to someone who has been out for 4 months.

I do agree that ultimately that will likely be the case though, someone will miss out

That pre suspension stuff is nonsense. A good player won’t let a suspension deter them.

We brought in him because we thought he would be pivotal in winning a premiership. We have subsequently realised we are a good half decade off even competing for a flag.

In that sense, and now with him missing a full season, combined with the cluster ā– ā– ā– ā–  of 2020, I can’t see how this trade is holding well for us at all.

The reason he was brought in is no longer viable. In that sense the trade is a bust.

Hopefully his trade value increases while he’s out, who’s in the window and willing to part with a late 1st rounder…

Has still got 3 years left after this one. Way too early to be writing it off as a bust.

What do we do with him when we’re 21-1 when the finals start?

Thank you for the scintillating input.

Yeah, there is that… :upside_down_face:

I only realised recently he was 28.

He’s not so much a bust he was just the wrong player to target. We could have spent those picks much better.

He made sense when our age profile was a bit older.

Losing Daniher, Saad, Fantasia and McKenna and replacing them with younger players changes things a little.

It has.

It hasn’t changed the fact he’s 50 times the player of Caldwell and Aiden fkg Bonar put together.

He’ll only get traded if he is the one that initiates it, and I can only see him doing that if he is desperate for a flag and doesn’t wanna go through our rebuild which could take anywhere from 2-5 years.

Hopefully his surgery goes well and he doesn’t have ongoing issues which is common in meniscus injuries. He is a very professional footballer which will help mitigate any longterm concerns about his knee
