It’s all just opinions at either end of the scale with some in the middle ground. The one thing they all have in common is none of them count for much.
I don’t mind Shiel, others love him, some don’t rate him.

Saw in the injury report he is still up to 16 weeks away.
Better start watching some vision on how to play BP HB, HF or FP, cause his time as a mid is done.
Outside mid, where he’s supposed to play.
You’ve seen him kick for goal right?
he kicked two straight against the hawks. it his pace ahead of the ball which makes him really damaging. not many defenders can go with him.
i think if he’s shooting inside of 40m he’s pretty reliable.
that string of behinds when he joined us (including a number of posters) were largely shots from the edge of 50 going flat out.
Shunts out ham?
Righto might be an unpopular opinion but is it worth trading Shiel at the end of the season? A club contending would give us a first rounder for him. I’m not sure he is worth having on the list if it’s going to keep parish and the other kids out of the midfield further stunting their growth. Blessing in disguise so far his injury
Shiel is absolutely required.
Our mid field mix was wrong, we had Merrett, McGrath and Shiel starting…all outside mids.
Starting should have been Stringa, Parish, Merrett… much more balanced.
Once again, Worsfold had no idea.
Imagine having McGrath and Shiel speed coming off the pine…weapons
Not sure we’d get a first rounder for him. I think he still offers us a bit - especially onfield leadership. But Parish can’t lose his midfield spot to him again. We just have to find a new role for shiel.
Starts Wing or HFF for mine
Ideally I’d say HF rotating middle for short stints as a chop out a few mins per quarter
When he returns will it be via vfl as it has for others?
The better our midfield group gets collectively the more we’ll like Shiel. The more he can play flashy to someone else’s stoic the more we’ll like Shiel.
Geez we must be flag certainties if Shiel can’t get a gig in our midfield rotation.
He will need to add an extra string to his bow, whether that be half forward or maybe half back.
But you’d still be rotating him regularly through the middle, and make no mistake, Shiel is a very, very, very good option to have sitting in your second string midfield.
Id consider trading him if it brought in a player like Dunkley, otherwise we keep him.
its never been about that shiel is no good. ever (although I think he is overrated)
its about the midfield balance.
Considering we are throwing Smith, Walla, Snelling onto the ball at times the idea we can’t fit Shiel in is ridiculous. As are the trading him calls.
Having strong rotations is vital. To maintain pressure, to have the legs to burn off opponents who maybe haven’t had the luxury of as much rotation.
Injuries also happen in footy. We are about one more away from needing to use Cutler or Dylan Clarke.
Ours isn’t a situation like GWS with a glut of midfield quality that could afford to cut players loose/have players leave. He’s a quality player and he’s absolutely in our best side when fit.
Overrated? Mate he gets pasted on here at every single opportunity.
He’s a player will improve the team when he returns. Period.
if you say so, but what have we actually missed from him? he’ll need to add another string to his now though, as @Paul_Peos said. he’s best 22, obviously - but he’ll need to become a bit more flexible. half forward would be ideal
Wing is his best spot with the occasional inside mid role when a change up is needed.
