#9 Dylan Shiel (Part 1)

Part of rotations, as all midfielders are. He will play forward more, but he will slot in as part of the midfield rotations

For the money he’s on though you want him to be placed in the guts. Not a rotating player

He would still spend about 70% time mid

I’m not at all convinced Caldwell is in our best side.
On what we’ve seen, he’s only really a centre square player.

And he’s behind Shiel, Parish, Merrett, McGrath etc etc as a centre square mid, most of whom add a lot more when they’re in other positions.

So is it worth pushing a Langford/Perkins/Ham (who are good elsewhere, and 2nd tier mid rotations) out of the 22 to fit him in?

I think Caldwell and Shiel come in for Snelling and Ham.

But there are always injuries, we will pretty much never face this problem.

Apples & oranges, that’d throw out the team balance a lot Imho.

Caught up on thread.

Dylan Shiel is best 22 and will not be traded. People thinking he is traded for a first rounder are delusional.

Dylan Shiel is one of the best centre clearance and stoppage clearance mids in the game. His breakaway pace and skill in congestion is his 1 wood. He is genuinely elite. Unfortunately he is somewhat of a 1 trick pony.

Shiel the outside midfielder is a myth, he is a poor kick and has always struggled when playing outside.

Yeah maybe. Reckon Caldwell can rotate to half forward and press up to the contest/stoppage in the same manner as Snelling has been. Shiel pushes Merrett further to the wing of the contest/stoppage in place of Ham.

No question that Shiel has a place in the side but it can’t be at the expense of Parish. Not even after last nights game, but after the last few weeks, Parish deserves his new position.

McGrath does not have break away speed.

100%

Why is everyone arguing over a problem that we don’t currently have. Shiel is 4 months away.

Exactly. And the likelihood that we have every midfielder available at every time is remote

Bulldogs seem to be going ok with Macrae, Bont, Smith, Libba, Treloar, Dunkley etc

1st mid rotation
Draper
Stringer (rotating with Snelling)
Parish
Merrett

2nd mid rotation
2MP
Shiel
Caldwell
McGrath

Cox and Ham on the wings

Actually starts to look like a decent midfield for a change. Why would we want to trade Shiel out?

Rotating for Snelling?

cmon man. none of that is true. none

he’s got a place, but let’s not be silly

Sorry Snelling starting up forward and rotating into the midfield post stoppage

Yeah, nah.

I don’t mind Snelling getting a run on ball now and then but he should not be first in line for that stringer rotation. Anyone from your second string rotation would go on ball before him

I think its unlikely anyone will give us what we gave up for Shiel, or willing to pay a comparable salary. I guess he is a keeper for us, and we should make the best of a good player, who is currently playing below Blitz’s expectations. Definitely best 22.
