Its the same in Hong Kong. Once we hit November the locals bring out their coats even when the temperature is in the mid 20’s and stay wearing coats until the end of March.
Great comparison.
They are built differently over there…
Japan has an obsession too (or a ‘rule’ that isn’t really enforced by authorities… but still) to keep air cons at 28°C or higher in summer. Pointless.
The air con in HK was probably the opposite, but much nicer for my personal temperature preference.
In Tokyo winter? The subway is like an oven.
All subways the world over are uncomfortably warm.
Same with airports.
It’s like there’s some sort of competition happening to see who can get away with being the hottest.
Singapore is one place that has it right.
But considering the climate there, they really had no other choice.
You haven’t lived until you’ve been in a KL metro train carriage stuck for 15 minutes for some unspecified reason having just pulled away from a station.
30+ degC and about 99.9% humidity.
Fun times…
What rain? ![]()
Bit woofy? J Paul Getty under the Warwick Farms?
And it’s raining in Melbourne.
A lovely and most welcome 8mm in parched Portland this morning. More please!
Looks like some really heavy precipitation happening on the Great Ocean Road at the moment, in a line coming directly off Bass Strait from Aireys Inlet down to Cape Otway.
Imbedded lightning/sforms too.
Typically quite slow moving in the SE/E winds so rainfall totals will be impressive in places. Good (well mostly) for the fire situation down there.
Cape Otway up to 18mm and rain still falling there. An independent weather station near Kennett River picking up closer to 45mm. Others between 20-30mm.
Hopefully it is falling on the fire ground.
“ Major flooding at big 4 wye. Cars and vans washed away. Pretty traumatic for some”
Oh no!
I’m not surprised unfortunately. Hope all stay safe down there.
This has just been stagnant for the last hour or two now. Still more to come.
Mt Cowley (just near Lorne) up to 164mm (since 9am)
Radar does show at least some heavy ish rain on the fire near Wonnangatta-to-west of Dargo. Not enough to put out but any moisture in that bush might help.
Nothing really on that Longwood fire which still burns in the Black Range and in bush north west Eildon township.
Looks to be spreading onto tgat Walwa area too. And even a small but heavy burst just north of Castlemaine.
Hopefully the Otways flooding eases and some gets to the fires between Colac and AB.
