Hibberd cops another of the undisclosed penalties.
Eric MacKenzie? Really?!?!? Surely the WCE defence dropped away as badly as ours?

That list is laughable
A top 8 (sic) side and we get how many players selected?
It would have been too much for them to leave out the reigning Bronwlow medallist, but The AA selectors are in Vladistan.
How could Carlisle not get a selection in a 40 man squad? At one time he was spoken of getting AA selections at CHB and CHF.
Is it just me or does North seem to get a fair few in the top 40 each year?
Random thoughts on the the All Australian selection panel which consists of:
Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Mark Evans, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Cameron Ling and Mark Ricciuto
I just compared Hibberd's numbers to those of Mackie, Enright and Malceski.
I know stats aren't everything but based on this he is very very stiff. All four play comparable roles and if anything Hibberd locks down on his man more often.
If I was having a bet either Daniel Wells or Luke Hodge will be named on one of the half back flanks in the AA team. Interestingly Hibberd averaged more possession than both even though his time in the midfield was basically nil.
The other interesting comparison is between Hooker and Mackenzie. Does anyone have good stats on goals conceded because Hooker gets a lot lot more ball and I would think their goals against would be similar.

Jesus Christ, imagine being in that room and trying to get any constructive conversation going.

Frawley only picks players who 'Lower their eyes.'
All Australian is nice and I'm sure players like it on their CV, but I personally don't get too interested in it.
It's not going to please everyone and it always throws up controversy by failing to get the best players for that year in. Even the best 40 list falls short.
And the fact Fletcher has only made it twice in his career (and one of those was as interchange)... meh says it all.
I bet they would all ■■■■ themselves laughing if you bought a little person into the room and set him alight, though.Jesus Christ, imagine being in that room and trying to get any constructive conversation going.Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Mark Evans, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Cameron Ling and Mark Ricciuto
On the point of naming a 40 man squad. I don’t like it. This is just another example of the AFL trying to take over the world. They have created a monster which is huge and needs to be fed ie the media. A 3 week trade period, fixture release etc means there is no such thing as an off season. Sad really.
you're all surprised the afl didn't want to inject a little PIG blood into the team?
The extraordinary amount of goals that Carlisle had kicked on him in the second half of the year means he shouldn't be AA.
But Hibbo?? Fark me.
Agree with you. Carlisle's form drop off was massive, but Hibberd still played some decent footy in the second half of the year. Perhaps not enough to make the final team, but I would have though he'd make the 40.
I thought that Carlisle's last 4 weeks were good. I did post halfway through the year, that IMO Hibberd was closer to AA than Carlilse.
I think Carlisle can definitely make the squad next year and expect Hibberd to make the team.
Hibberd dropped off but was a very solid player. i thought the bloke with the most intercept marks from opposition kicks entering attacking 50 might be a handy type. Apparently not.
Not sure if you mean Hooker?
(haven't checked current stats)
Think if you check the stats that Hooker's stats are very similar to Thompson's. Thompson's probably plays more on the number one forward - But has days when he is cut up.
AA is all about media publicity - Carlisle was talked up halfway through the year - His form was very good at that time, but thought at the time there were other players ahead of him.

- Could one argue that 7 WA based players out of 40 is a direct result of having 1/8 of the panel members from WA?
- I'm not sure how Demetriou has time to decide on who is in the AA squad considering he is either on holidays, on a fact finding mission overseas, locked in negotiations about handing down penalties for our war crimes or sitting on tv talk show panel.
- How did KB not get a single Tiger in the squad
- Cameron Ling only managed to get Jarryd Roughead in as a redhead.
I just compared Hibberd's numbers to those of Mackie, Enright and Malceski.
- He averaged 23.6 possessions a game, compared to Mackie (21.1), Enright (22.8) and Malceski (22.8).
- One surprising thing is that Mackie and Enright both averaged more marks, 6.4 and 7.2 respectively vs Pig's 6.1 - Malceski was just 4.2.
- Malceski dominated rebound 50s with 177, while Hibberd was 4th with 95 - well ahead of Enright 77 and Mackie 59.
I know stats aren't everything but based on this he is very very stiff. All four play comparable roles and if anything Hibberd locks down on his man more often.

Good post.
Hooker's direct comparison is Thompson of North. Hibberd case - He is a better pure defender than malceski and Enright and probably better than Mackie.
Have no problems with McKenzie - A seriously good defender and is under-rated.
This has become a popularity contest. How the ■■■■ buddy gets in and hibberd doesnt even make the 40 when I thought he was a solid chance to make the final cut.
This is what happens when you have guys like Luke Darcy on the selection panel... Say that again.
I know this team is decided upon by morons but dead-set I am still filthy at Hibberd's omission. He deserves the recognition for an outstanding season. Corey Enright just has to ■■■■■■ roll up!
Stevie J is the stand out omission for mine.
Taken his game to another level this year. Which is hard to do.
Not only plays forward but now stalks the midfield.
Carlisle omission I can understand. He is not ready. 1st 3rd of the season was unbelievable. His last 3rd forgettable.
Pig i thought would have been on the cusp of the AA side so it is dumfounding how he is not in the top 40.

I would reckon Luke Darcey was one of the people voting for Hibberd to be in there...
I've got no problem with Franklin making it. Bad season by his standards... still the 3rd or 4th best forward in the league - and I'd have him over Cloke any day of the week.
Hodge made it. Now he is a guy who did not have a great year. 22 touches, 15 effective, at a shade under 70% efficiency, 2.7 clearances, 2.4 rebound 50s, 4.2 inside 50s; 0.5 goals & 0.5 goal assists per game.
Missed 2 or 3, and to my mind only had 5 or 6 matches I'd consider vote-worthy. Sure, most of them were in important big games, but that isn't really what AA is all about. He just did not have a stand out, consistent year. Not top (or close to it) in any of the statistical categories.
You're leaving out 2 or 3 gun midfielders every year, not sure why he'd get in other than name.
Compare Bartel's season to Hodge's, Bartel ahead in virtually everything - Bartel had a similar, do a bit of everything, pretty decent but not outstanding year - and Bartel's not even being spoken about.
For mine Libba should get in, Montagna not far off either.
Kade Simpson & Walker bit stiff as well. I'd have Pig (just), ahead of both of them, then Mackie.
Carlisle nowhere near it, nor McPharlin. Sorry.
I'm not even sure Cameron should be in there. Kicks goals, but that's about it. Similar to Jack Reiwoldt 3-4 years ago, got in based on lots of goals, but when you apply the microscope there's not much else there - hence he's dropped out since, despite still kicking lots of goals.
