Adrian Dodoro - Flankers into Mids since 2000 (Part 2)

You can’t ask people at the club what Dodoro is like. They are part of his ‘network’. Of course they are going to back him.

He’s been there for over 20 years. You do that by being well liked by the staff around you. The fact that he will still be there behind the scenes shows that the club can’t assess him professionally.

Thanks Lawry for providing feedback from people inside the club who actually work with Dodoro.

Jesus Dodoro must have set the whole team up with a nice plot of land in a soon to be rezoned rural town…

How is ‘very good at his job’ defined?

Which players left Essendon to become better players? Maybe Houli? The rest were already good when they left.

there is some substance in the assertion that development at essendon has been a problem. that doesn’t in anyway address the problems we’ve had with balancing the list. nor is development the difference between disco being a really bad list manager or a really great one. It might mean he’s about average and not as bad as we make out. but why would you keep an average list manager for 20 years!?

Talent trumps “culture” and “development” every day of the week. All factors, but more excuses.

Oliver seemingly had a breakdown this year, but you wouldn’t tell on field. Look at his performances in the finals.

The 2009 to 2012 Collingwood team and the great Eagles team of the 2000s were on the bags every weekend.

You mean the people who have shared in his failures. Great judges.

I too am here to espouse my entrenched opinion.

There are many people who are very personable and easy to get along with but also just incompetent. You will find these types at any workplace. I’m sure to these people, Dodo is a friend and colleague and they’re not going to run him down infront of a complete stranger at the Bnf…Noone on here can honestly believe Dodo is a competent list manager, given our lack of success.

We haven’t had any priority draft picks.

Collingwood got dale thomas as such. It’s likely they wouldn’t have been able to get Pendlebury as well.

With the basketballer, Collingwood don’t win 10, 23.

Hawthorn got hodge, Roughead, Ellis, whilst also enabling the drafting of Franklin and Lewis.

Rance was a priority.

Riewoldt and Luke Ball.

It’s clearly not all Dodoros fault.

But its been 20 years.

Nothing has improved.

One of my criticisms of Dodo is his obsession with drafting project players or those who can be moulded to play various roles. Could you honestly tell me why we drafted; Cox and Francis? What are were/are their genuine roles in our team? This is what annoys me to no end; we don’t draft for needs but for versitiliy.

Imagine not winning a final in 20 years and not qualifying for a priority pick

Unless they said something you agreed with?

Again, these are the people who have been a part of the failure. I don’t expect or want them to agree with me because IF they knew what was wrong & were better at their jobs, the club wouldn’t have been a steaming pile of failure for the last 2 decades. I don’t know why this is so hard for some to understand - the club is still in the worst period in its history. 19 completed season without a single finals win means that there is no opinion that is valid other than everything & everyone associated with the club over that time has failed.

It kinda reminds me of a mate of mine who was a member of the Vic LNP. He assured me that Matthew Guy was a very good operator, strong leader & would make a great Premier. He was farking deluded but like many at the club & here, he was too close to see things objectively. Facts say Guy was a terrible candidate. Facts say dodo is a terrible list manager. Facts say EFC has been a terribly run football club.

I agree.
I still have hope for Cox, but yea, I fear another Ariel Steinberg type trade.

Not that it got us anywhere, but we actually took Jetta with a priority pick. I had no idea/forgot. My North mate told me when I was whinging to him about his charity club being on their knees.

Except that was standard 20 years ago. any club down the bottom of the ladder was given priority picks. the landscape has changed considerably in that time. there are more avenues and options for clubs to build their lists now. Trying to compare Leroy Jetta as a priority pick to what Norf have received is ludicrous.
