This is all bad news.
Was from an article on the Herald-Sun app.
Becoming like AFL9s
I remember seeing that at the time and couldn’t believe it was a reportable offence. Was the perfect tackle, no head contact with the ground. If you take that out of the game then any sort of physical contact could be considered reportable. Next will be someone who takes a mark of the year contender, but if reported for rough conduct because their knee hits the back of the head of an opponent and they failed to show a “duty of care”.
I caught a little bit of this from the report.
Apparently this rule is more media led than anything else and that with all the whistles going on, it misled the commentary.
I never noticed it before hand to be honest and not sure why there needs to be a whistle on the interchange bench to begin with unless there is an interchange infringement.
Funnily enough i have actually noticed the whistling and it annoyed me. I’m just happy to hear 7 have some affects mic’s, the crowd noise on their telecasts is terrible, then they pump up the commentators audio too high. You can watch a sellout mcg game and it sounds no different to a 20,000 crowd, dunno who their producer is but whoever told him less atmosphere is good, doesn’t understand what the fans want.
hahahahhahahah
changing the rules rather than having commentators who aren’t complete deadshts is peak afl brain stuff
I know it’s fun to bash the AFL at every turn, but this one is the least one to bash them on.
Teams have runners and signs if they want to create attention to a different gameplan short term.
Outside of an interchange infringement, what is the purpose of having a whistle on the interchange bench?
they don’t. they are only referring to the interchange infringement whistle.
Remember in 2016 when Courtney Dempsey was penalised for tackling Andrew Gaff too hard?
Here’s a radical solution. Don’t broadcast the audio from the mics near the bench???
It’s just too noisy, players and fans can’t concentrate on the game.
Tippa’s career highlight reel will now be a roll call of modern day reportable run down tackling offences.
If he was Brock Lesnar, the crowd would have been counting.
Did they?
I thought it was coaches or gameday staff.
A minor amendment to the Regulations has been introduced prohibiting whistling from the Interchange bench. This change is a result of excessive whistling from club officials on the interchange bench.
The interchange infringement happened only once last season, so there had to be other times whistles were used from the bench.
Or when Leroy Jetta was the only player in AwFuL history to be suspended for staging?
Or when Dustin Fletcher repeatedly got reported and suspended for tripping?
At the risk of sounding like we have a persecution complex, we have been dicked at times over the years…
A couple of years ago I mentioned Fletcher’s suspension for tripping in 2010 when he tackled Barry Hall by the waist and his arm slipped toward his shin and another poster mentioned it was the first instance of a tripping suspension for many years.
A couple of weeks later we were playing Geelong at the Dome and Andrew Mackie performed a blatant trip on Alwyn Davey, grabbing his ankle to prevent him from running into an open goal, and wasn’t cited by the umpire nor the MRP
Fletcher definitely tripped blokes. Was amusing to see him argue his way out of it at the tribunal.
Wait, does this mean we have a premiership player on our list?
