AFLW - round 2 vs Fark Carlton @ North Port Oval, 11:10am Sunday 4 September 2022

Wuetschner listed as on the bench the last 19 minutes. Definitely had some type of ailment.

Basic stats are positive looking…

AND we won the clearances! Didn’t feel like that.

It certainly did not.

Basically, we won everything but the hit-outs and contested marks.

Some minor wins for Fark Carlton:

Trust me mate from experience it’s for the best now

Fantasy points wise, it was Prespakis Moody Cain Toogood… and then a big drop-off to our other players.

Clarke 38% time on ground?!?

Yikes. That’s the game right there.

A post was split to a new topic: Votes 2022 R2 AFLW Dons vs FCFC

If Fark Carlton has a Good and we have a Toogood, why didn’t we win?

Crowd VERY demonstrative for the non holding-the-ball 10:10 left in the first quarter. First of many!

Alexander almost took several big marks that would have changed the results. But she’s not a clunker.

Vescio deserves a shooting star nomination for the second of three goals she they got from frees.

End of the first quarter: the ump did call play on before the siren… but that call was not at all consistent with the rest for the day.

van Dyke thrown away from the ball early in the second quarter. A lot more obvious than the one that gave Vescio the goal.

Still not happy with Barba played outside today. We’re getting killed in the hit-outs, have a tackler inside to minimise the damage. The coaches really like Doonan being on the ball.

We had 63% more scores per inside fifty than Fark Carlton. But we desperately need more than one marking forward, especially when that one is taking marks up on the wing.

Morcom appealed for being held, Vescio didn’t and was surprised to get it. Replay shows the extent of the contact was Vescio grabbing Morcom’s elbow and pushing up. BULLSHIT game-decider.

WTF, Carlton? Leaving Prespakis to sit alone on the side of that goal square pack… made the goal very easy!

That one 9 minutes before the end… deadset caught, threw it away, caught it again, and then (maybe) made a handball. That would have put us in front with this momentum…

Oh Doonan…

If it wasn’t obvious on screen, our fans massively outnumbered theirs.

OK, Bannister is probably a bit better than a poor woman’s Tierney.

Barba should have taken the shot at goal…

Toogood so close to marking that on the siren…

FARK FARK CARLTON.

Gamble is 1 of my daughters teachers, along with 1 of the assistants. Charlie is the same height as Gamble but is about to turn 14!

Not sure what happened but prior to this year she had little interest in footy.

School friend asked her to play for the local club and has gone from strength to strength in the space of months having never touched a footy prior, to the point of getting an invite from the EDFL to skills training sessions for kids born 2008.

Charlie has ambitions to represent Essendon’s AFLW team.

Back to the footy! As part of FD we were at the game. So much fun. Damn, didn’t know who it was but, missing that shot on the run 15 out with 2 on the clock could’ve/should’ve been the game. Super proud of their effort tho. 3:2 to 0 in the last, very impressive.

Oh, good to see Phillips at the ground with his wife and baby.

Clarke 38% TOG is that correct? Didn’t watch every minute but she stood out when near the ball with her clean hands and seemed to be on the field a lot.

Clarke had a good third quarter, yes.

Stats at below link (no, I have not added them all up to see if they total 1600%). Gamble 99% and Clarke 38% are the bounds, with Wuetschner and Fede near the bottom in the fifties.

Here’s an alternative ladder at the end of round two (real ladder has Cats ahead of the Bears: that’s silly).

Team Goals Behinds Scores
Bears 21 17 38
Sts 17 17 34
ESSENDON 11 18 29
Pies 11 15 26
Dees 9 16 25
Dogs 9 15 24
Cats 5 12 17
Crows 9 8 17
Suns 9 7 16
Roos 10 4 14
Giants 8 6 14
Eagles 8 6 14
Tiggers 5 8 13
Port 5 7 12
Hawks 5 7 12
Bins 6 5 11
Farks 8 2 10
Dockers 4 4 8

Tiny sample, and we may be doing a fair bit structurally wrong on the field, and have huge holes when it comes to the ruck and legit pace, but in a league where scoring can be lacklustre we’re going alright.

(We have conceded slightly fewer points than the league average: 59 vs 63. The other newbie teams have conceded an average of 95 points. But the catch with that, and to a lesser extent the ladder above, is that the Dawks and the Farks ARE below league-average. You could argue the Saints are ahead of us because they’ve faced TWO newbie teams.)

The other three newbies have zero wins from their six games and are on 40%. We’re on 142%

Average out the likes of the Bears and it’s much more attractive.

Might want to fix that accuracy, though…

Team(s) Goals Behinds Scores Points Accuracy
EFC 11.0 18.0 29.0 84 38%
Old Teams 9.5 9.8 19.3 67 49%
All Teams 8.9 9.7 18.6 63 48%
Other Newbies 5.3 6.3 11.7 38 46%

Put it into an Excel spreadsheet, does add up to 1600. Funnily enough, Fark Carlton’s adds up to 1602. Bloody cheats.
