Ahmed Saad

Out of curiosity, does it say how many energy drinks he took? Surely taking one won't come up in a drug test.

And FWIW, I don't care one bit about this guy or anyone who gets done for this sort of ■■■■.

Out of curiosity, does it say how many energy drinks he took? Surely taking one won't come up in a drug test.

Yep, and I keep asking did this performance enhancing drug, actually enhance his performance. Did he kick a bag, was he BOG.

If he was a white, anglo saxon, bogan from the Pies with tattoos would he has got the same treatment.

I could enhance my performance quite significantly and I still wouldn't kick a bag.

But I have no beef with bags.

You'd hope the AFL would allow him to be listed by St Kilda in a similar way to Rama when he was undergoing cancer treatment.

Have no idea how you can come up with such a ridiculous comparison. Rama had an illness that was completely outside of his control.
Do I think Ahmed Saad deliberately set out to take a banned substance, no, probably not, but he ordered an energy drink over the Internet and did not bother to check with his club doctor, or any other sports medic or anyone who might know as to whether all of the ingredients in it were legal.
Besides when the AFL changed the rookie rules especially for Rama, it was because at the time it was against the rules for anyone who had previously been on an AFL to be selected as a rookie listed player. That is obviously no the case any longer.
You have it a bit wrong - It's an energy drink that was provided by his sponsor - One that he would have taken many times before - On match day and non match day - And it's only prohibited on match day.

If this happened to an Essendon player I'd want the club to be doing everything to stand by him and keep him at the club.
He's a not a cheat, he fell victim to the rules of an archaic organisation who know bugger all about substances they may or may not prohibit.

Conspiracy theory number 1. Ahmed Saad has exactly the same number of letters in his name as James Hird, five in first name and four in last name. Are they both sacrificial lambs or has Saad been punished due to this link to James Hird?

And A. Saad is an anogram of ASADA!!!

Holy crap, maybe he was even linked to 9/11!

Well we have had high profile players from Collingwood get into a mess, but it was not handled harshly by the AFL. They were  white with a few added colours to the skin, and few other mates at the Pies implicated as well.  Saad was a silly boy, but the punishment has to fit the crime. The Indonesians give you 20 years jail for having a bag of weed, and shoot you if it is a really bad drug!!   We are better than that locally and you get a chance to show that you will not make a mistake again. WTF happened to the three strikes rule in this case?  AFL should ■■■■ off this ASADA and WADA nonsense and have their own rules.

If he was best on ground, ran through the fence and kicked ten goals, then you could say that something enhanced his performance, but he didn't get a vote or a goal.

And back to the racist question; compare the treatment of Andy Lovett and Stevie Milne. Very similar circumstances; police throw the book and half the building at Lovett and cover up for Milne. You have to wonder why?

Warne took a masking agent for steroids, apparently from his mum to make him look sexy (lol I sort of think hed be that dumb) and only got one year.

VFL Plodder orders stuff online, never receives it, pleads guilty, gets 6mth upgraded to 2 years.

AFL player tests positive, pleads guilty, gets 18 months.

Seems about as logical as the MRP, big name players get an arm chair ride

The three strikes rule is only related to illicit drugs not performance enhancing drugs.
As soon as you are tested with PEDs, you are screwed. Regardless of what sport you play.

AFL player(s) "mum" orders genuine, absolute legit performance enhancing stuff online.

Scot free.

See, that is why the whole deal is BS.  Look at the WADA docs, and you will see clearly that illegal drugs are on the banned list.

So the deal that the AFL did with Players Association, ASADA and money from the Federal Government means that players can smoke dope, snort coke, and shoot up H, and only be in the ■■■■■ after the third positive test.  All those drugs are on the WADA list, and can be performance enhancing. I know that when my girlfriend and I smoked a joint or two many years ago, the performance was enhanced !!

Wasn't Steven Bakers "mum" selling a diet supplement to Warney?

That's no quite correct. Illicit drugs are only banned by WADA on game day, some are PE some masking agents. The whole thing us f***ed up. If they were serious about the integrity of sport they would develop a policy that included gambling, illicit and performance enhancing drugs.

Hopefully this link will work.... An interesting article by Alberto Salazar - former athlete now olympic coach.

with wada they are only banned on day of the event , so your argument doesnt make sense , an afl player can get a strike any time of the year

which is way above wada standards for illicit drugs  , wada dont test for coke out of season

Just what is the AFL, ASADA and WADA definition of "in-competition". Is it the day of the game, the game time only, 12 hours before or the whole footy season, like it is the whole Olympics Games period.
And how is AFL above WADA standard when one strike and you are out with WADA

AFL illicit program is above WADA standard because WADA don't test for them out of competition. You can spend x amount of your life competing, and the rest getting smashed, and as long as you don't partake during competiton periods you will never ever be done. Michael Phelps is a good example. Massive pot head, but only unearthed publicly due to a party pic. Not so in AFL. They can roll up to your holiday hotel during your out of season time and intrude on your life there. Huge difference.

From WADA: In Comp testing is when an athlete is tested in relation to a specific event. Out of Comp Testing is anything outside of that.
