All Australian 2019

It’s understandable from mids clearing the ball from a bounce as they just throw it on the boot. But HBF’ers should do a lot better. I didn’t realise Caleb Daniel made so many errors.

How did Zac Clarke not make the squad? I for one am mortified.

I concur. Haynes is very good, and I reckon Prestia has probably had close to a better year than Martin.

Indicative of where our list is at unfortunately.

We have a bunch of players in the #30 to #150th best player sort of range but nobody in the top 30 in the league

Had a few blokes that have threatened: Zach, Dev Smith, Hurley and Hooker are consistently good but rarely brilliant, Daniher, Stringer, Shiel and Fantasia are occasionally brilliant but not consistently good, Heppell flirted with star status early in his career but hasn’t reached the same level in the midfield.

Saad is probably the closest in terms of brilliance and consistency.

We really do lack players who perform at that elite level consistently enough to be called stars of the game.

List or system? Hard to say.

The All-Australian squad has just been announced.

And just like every year, there are some stars who have been snubbed.

Star wingman Bradley Hill has most likely played his final game for Fremantle, but he won’t relocate to Melbourne with an All-Australian blazer after he was surprisingly overlooked for the 40-man squad despite a brilliant season

Ball magnets Matt Crouch and Jake Lloyd finished among the top-five disposal winners in the AFL, but neither earned a spot in the 40-man squad.

Richmond pair Shane Edwards and Nick Vlastuin both produced dazzling home and away seasons and both look set for monster September campaigns, but they weren’t one of four Tigers included.

Zac Williams burst back onto the scene after overcoming an Achilles injury that ruined his 2018, but he was left out, along with young gun Tim Taranto.

And then there is Daniel Rich, who wasn’t one of five Brisbane players in the 40.

Foxsports.com.au has identified the EIGHT biggest snubs in the 2019 All-Australian squad:

BRADLEY HILL (FREMANTLE)

It is hard to believe the star wingman won’t be in the final 22, let alone the 40. Hill is one of the most sought-after players in the AFL right now, despite having two years to run on his contract. The Dockers star averaged 25.1 disposals, 484.3 metres gained and 4.3 inside 50s from 22 games.

ZAC WILLIAMS (GWS GIANTS)

The star rebounding defender was unlucky to miss out on the squad in 2017 and he is even stiffer this year. Williams has roared back to life after missing almost all of last year after rupturing his Achilles. The playmaker averaged 24.3 disposals, 4.6 rebound 50s and 493.9 metres gained from 20 games.

DANIEL RICH (BRISBANE)

No one has ridden Brisbane’s pain like Rich. The gun half-back has been symbolic of the Lions’ rise in 2019. He averaged career-high numbers across the board in 2019 — disposals (22.6), rebound 50s (6.6) and metres gained (529.9) — and has been the architect out of the back half this year.

NICK VLASTUIN (RICHMOND)

Dylan Grimes used to be the underrated Tigers defender who didn’t receive the credit his performances deserved. Now it is Vlastuin. The defender has blossomed in the absence of Alex Rance this year and his omission will drive Richmond supporters crazy.

JAKE LLOYD (SYDNEY)

Only three other players in the AFL touched the ball more times than the Sydney defender in 2019 and no one accumulated more territory than the Swan. After being named in the squad last year, the selectors have overlooked Lloyd this year, despite him averaging 30.8 disposals, 7.2 rebound 50s and 532.5 metres gained.

ROBBIE TARRANT (NORTH MELBOURNE)

Just when it looked like Tarrant’s time was finally going to arrive, it hasn’t. Instead, the selectors have included Daniel Talia, Harris Andrews, Mark Blicavs, Nick Haynes, Dylan Grimes and Jeremy McGovern in the 40-man squad.

MATT CROUCH (ADELAIDE)

The Adelaide ball magnet won’t earn a second All-Australian selection this year after earning his first All-Australian selection in 2017. Only two players — Adam Treloar and Jack Macrae — averaged more disposals than Crouch’s 32.6 from 19 games in 2019.

SHANE EDWARDS (RICHMOND)

When last year’s All-Australian 22 was announced, Edwards was one of the biggest surprises. The perennially underrated Tiger has gone to another level since then, but he didn’t feature in the 40-man squad, despite averaging a career-high numbers 21.8 disposals in 2019.

How the fk do you finish 5th and get 7 nominations??

How sh-t must the rest of there players be if that’s the best position you can finish.

Tim Watson had a go at Luke Darcy for the Saad snub.

Darcy “who would make room for him?”

You have to ask if you have 7 players who have had All Australian type years. Do you finish 5th.

WTF.

I thought this was a joke but I looked it up.

He is absolutely, next level cooked. Plus he spent most of his year sniping blokes.

Selected on name only.

Saad and Zerrett deserved to be in the top 40. IMO both unlikely to be in the final 22. Saad did well for the majority of the year but had big goals kicked on him against Port and Pies late.

CONTESTED POSSESSIONS AT THE COAL FACE LOUD NOISES

thanks lingy

Did his hammy in first half of port game, so have to give him some credit for actually playing on, so his only bad game was Friday.

I don’t even blame him for Friday- he was ok. We left the biggest holes from Elliott to lead in to after Hurls went down
