Andrew Gaff - RFA

Tend to agree, will be too much to try put offer up they won’t match.

I think we may just try and instigate a trade in same way that Crows/Cats did for Danger.

No offer made to Danger. No matching done by Crows or need to risk hanging onto player who didn’t want to be there.

However if we really do have Parker/Shiel lined up then our 2018 1st to WC will not be available & they will know that.

Could be our 2019 1st & Colyer & steak knives. Which will be vastly better than just pick 17 compo.

Maybe one of the young mids like Mutch or Clarke could go into mix. Leuey is from WA and they need ruck cover until Nicnat back etc

Danger (best player in game) trade:

Crows got - Pick 8, 28 & Dean Gore
Cats got - Danger & pick 50

*incidentally Gore delisted by Crows end of '17

Yeah I’m not sure about vastly better… But a 1st and some steak knives might be enough to satisfy West Coast who could well just want to get it done and move on.

Trav must be delighted to have taken over Ricky Dysons spot in pre trade week discussion.

and the ‘third rounder’

Third rounder has turned into “next year’s pick 18”.

Damn…

We really need to get our 3rd rounder back !
OR, lots of them.

If ever there was a player that you could confidently sign for 7 years it is Andrew Gaff.

Have no issue with a 7 year deal whatsoever.

And other than Tom Lynch he is the best player currently talked about as available for any position.

He is good at what he does (outside runner), but fundamentally I still have issue with a deal that size for a midfielder who 100% (actually more like ~70%) relies on his team mates winning the ball for him. For that sort of deal you should be getting a complete player. A bloke who can win his own ball AND get it on the outside and be damaging AND defend when you don’t have it. We’re talking Dusty/Danger/Kelly contract, nothwithstanding that these guys don’t lay a heap of tackles cause they’ve always got the footy.

Parker and Shiel are both better contested players and better when they don’t have the footy (superior tackle numbers). Looking at their numbers (score involvements/goal assists) for both career and this year their impact per possession is about the same. So I don’t subscribe to the theory that Gaff is much more influential at all.

All three have deficiencies, all three have big strengths, all three would compliment our current midfield mix and be very valuable contributors, none are worthy of 7yrs at the sort of money being talked about IMO.

Honestly, after the discussion last week I’d almost be more lid off on Wingard over the 3 of them.

Especially if they have another target like Coniglio lined up who will require 2x 1sts

Shiel trade - Pick 8 & Hartley for SHiel & Giants Third Rounder
Gaff Trade - 2019 First rounder + Colyer for Gaff and their 2019 third rounder

From Twitter … EFC supporters aren’t the only ones losing their collective minds!

“Hard to tell with all these rumours but a Hawks fan just posted he saw them sitting down at a café on Glenferrie Road… I understand he is in town at the moment too… Hawks would be silly not to ask the question”

What does blitz think if we got Gaff but lost Guelfi as part of a trade?

Colyer would be the preference to go you’d think but Guelfi also a WA boy

Heffsgirl would obviously not be happy

I’d be against it. We need more midfield depth so trade out Guelfi and our 1st for Gaff actually reduces depth.

If we are trading out players it needs to be KPP or backman

Guelfi isn’t a star but he’s a solid hardworking contributor. He would be a required player I’d imagine.

Lol, there is footage of him training in Perth yesterday

Was gonna say there’s literally no chance he’d be meeting with Clarko (or anyone else) in Melbourne 4 Days out from his team playing in a Prelim… even if he isn’t going to be participating.

Um ok. Not sure how relevant it is then for the Gaff thread! More an argument not to take Gaff if you really want Rozee.

That’s a possibility. But if we finish top 4-6 next year, then our 2019 first is a similar pick to their 2018 FA compo, but in a later draft that’s not as good. Now, they could also push for some of what we get back from Adelaide, or a second rounder, but is it worth the effort if the FA compo is the best pick of the lot?
