Well that’s rubbish. Is 30 years old Merrett’s “prime”? Geelong traded their 25yr old captain in 1999 for Cameron Mooney (drafted pick #56) and draft picks #15, #17 & #47.
You make trades that improve the list. This clearly would have for 2028 and beyond.

If we don’t have Merrett and don’t take Fiorini (also evidence against a rebuild) then Dovaston and Sweid simply replace them.
Or trade pick #22 for 2027 picks to help match Bewick. Hell, Hawks possibly do the deal if we ask for their FF1 instead of #22.

In comparing the value of Curnow trade and Merrett final offer, it really comes down to how you value Hayward and how you value a 2025 late first to a 2027 late first
Curnow, 31, 42 and a 2027 2nd were traded for Hayward, 11, 2026 first and a 2027 first.
We could have traded Merrett for 10, 22 and a 2026 first.

We already had Fioini in the door and already finalised our delistings. So it would be dov and some future picks in the teens or 20s for Merrett.
Doesnt change the dial for our team. A pick 15 small forward aint gunna change our future prospects.
We should have planned it out way earlier and actually spoke with the Hawks early. They came to us too late and the deal was ■■■■ based on our current list availability.

Not sure. Keeping Merrett and then offering him an extension is not filling me with confidence.
Im pretty close to just going full WOB and copping a 12 month ban with the ■■■■ the clubbing is doing lately.

You should do it, at least bring up in QLD I feel a bit removed from it all.
I don’t watch nearly as much of them as I used to. In years past it would be sacrilegious for me to miss a second let alone a match. Nowadays, I can do other things and sleep better at night not worrying about their abysmal efforts.
When they start performing again, even start trying week in, week out I will be in like Flynn again. Until then, I pay my membership and seat (used by my family), follow what’s going on, watch bits and pieces and enjoy the QLD sunshine and vibe to get away from the suffering!
