Andrew Welsh - back to the Wooosha times

One pick under 20 the other was pick 22. and they way Hawks are looking this year their first is likely to be pushed to an early second so it’s not 3 picks under 20

That’s a great hand for a rebuilding club. Which we’re not.

A rebuild means knocking down all the old structures, and building with new materials.

Means to me that Perkins, Gresham, Guelfi, Redman, Ridley, Langford, Wright should also be in the bin, and you play and develop all the youngsters with a game plan that works.

I heard two pertinent things today, one was from a former champion who said that your key defender and key forward need to have mongrel in their game and he does see this with Reid, Mackay, Wright or Langford. The other was from a very successful leader that you do not win anything through inspiration, only from doing the hard work.

Nothing indicates Bombers are rebuilding, perhaps doing a makeover.

I think no one will accept the clubs is rebuilding unless the team resembles an expansion side like GC and GWS in their first season

Those players will eventually get filtered out and replaced with younger ones

Rubbish.

A rebuild is getting rid of the failed seniors that continue to let us down year after year.

We just replace kids with kids

I hate comparing losses, but there is a huge difference in the way we competed in losses in the Hawks, Dogs, Cats games vs the Lions on their home deck last year (Caddy kicking whilst on the run in the opp direction game).

Fans expect the team to try, compete and make the opposition work for it - this club consistently shows that it can’t do that.

We had about 50 Sam Reids in the time Longmire coached Sydney.

Which 3 picks under 20 where they? Pick 10, pick 22 wasn’t it and a future first which would end up over 20 anyway yeah?

They could have at least tried to upgrade pick 22.

Yep pick 10 in a “weak draft” and effectively 2 second rounders plus a guy they want to delist is a pile of ■■■■ on toast from Hawthorn.

Agree, but would love to have either as a senior mentor or head of football though. Some things don’t change in sport, and they would add some stability - but keeping up with pace requires fresh eyes and interpretation.

Like we tried with Bomba/Hird lol but hopefully just not with a loose unit.

They shafted us with Shotgun Williams and in doing so helped them get Burgoyne.

Tried to shaft us again with their crappy deal for our best player who’s under contract they can get farked

I would have traded him for pick 10 alone. He’s 30 and apparently we’re rebuilding.

I have lost faith in him already.

You wont if he sacks Brad

The problem is it works to show the gap between a top 4 team and us. Three good picks for a player who won’t be around in three years would have helped bridge that gap. Refusing the offer effectively means Welsh is implying he has an alternative plan to bridge that gap. Well, it better be a spectacular plan.

And remember, he was part of the board who extended Scott.

It could have been effectively Dovaston, Sweid and a 2026 first rounder. Which is likely to stay a first rounder if the AFL introduces the rumoured new matching rules.

3 good picks, eh. You don’t trade your AA calibre captain in his prime for anything less at least 1 top 3 pick and another top ten, at least.
