I don’t think we will keep Merrett unless we don’t have a serious partner at the trade table.
I think Andrew Welsh probably knows how to cut a deal.

I agree. I felt like telling him to ■■■■ off listening to that crap at the Brownlow with Daisy Thomas.
Barham never filled me with confidence but what’s the actual go here? Why has Welsh knifed Barham but has the same public position on Merrett and there is talk of stability etc?

I still think he ends up going its just posturing from the club. Every club says the same thing when they have a contracted player wanting out
It’s funny because plenty on here are saying we should not trade with Hawthorn and just force him to play in the VFL for two years yet all of a sudden if he decides to stay all should be forgiven

Well you can walk away if no trade is on. It would be hard to believe that Hawthorn wouldn’t be willing to pay up. Thats why his meeting was leaked.
But if we do id expect Merrett to be treated like a consultant for a year then traded in 2026.
The club can do both.

That’s not exactly the best endorsement considering the source.
I’m glad we finally got more Essendon circa-late-2000s representation in the club. That was really lacking.
