Different clubs at different points in their journeys but same theme here I think.
Welsh declared Essendon aren’t rebuilding (even though it is). I suspect the days of giving players a psychological free pass is over. Time is always now and I think this creates a sharper and more ambitious culture which I think is important for success.

Fremantle have (on paper) a very strong team and a really major home ground advantage. This year was a failure, as will be any season over the next 3-4 they aren’t around the top 4 and winning finals.
Essendon is going to finish 17th or 18th no matter what standards are set or how hard the players try. That position is entirely dependent on whether West Coast start improving or not.

This is true.
The Dockers CEO is clearly of the view that being forever labelled as ‘potential’ or the like has resulted in a ‘not quite yet’ mindset seeping through his club. Pivoting to time is now is an obvious effort to change mindsets at the Dockers to a ‘time is now’ mindset.
Essendon, whilst different has been always ‘young and developing’ so there’s obvious parallels and I think Welsh is aware of this too.

I agree with this. I hated the comments from Barham and co about us being “brave” by not chasing Houston. You have to keep improving and consider bringing in good players to your club (as long as it’s for the right price)
