Imagine if we asked Lloyd to not get involved in draft prospects and ignored his advices with Roberts.
Maybe, just maybe, former AFL players are in a good position to help identify talent.

I don’t mind it as long as Welsh respects Rosa and the list management team and doesn’t try to overstep his boundaries. it’s good to have a president who’s taking an active interest in our recruitment.
He was there last year too, for what it’s worth. He sits in on draftee interviews
Probably asking them if they can spell EGAKCAP DNAL DNA ESUOH backwards.
Super happy with this. Draft picks are crucial so why not get more buy in.
I agree.
Welsh said his #1 priority is enduring connection at all levels in the club. I think his involvement would be around alignment of culture and values.
As others said, as long as Rosa is in command and Welsh an important contributor holistically I have no issue.
Lasty, he’s still think the Football Director so at this stage he likely is involved in this capacity.
And Solomon lives in tweed heads so he is the footy guy on the board who lives in Melbourne
Until the AGM, Welsh is footy director I assume. He’s dual hatting in interim I think.
Much happier with Welshy’s tie work on the EFC site.
He’s on a roll now ..
But what’s gone on with those gnashers as the camera clicked. Instead of “say cheese” did the photographer go “say Sam Mitchell” or somethin’?
Let’s get Dodoro and Sheeds back to be involved then.
The Board, and outside figures needs to understand their role and stop interfering
I saw Ken at Bunnings yesterday, the one next to Adelaide airport. He was asking the chick at the front where the varnish is.
“Would love you at the Bombers, Ken” was met with a cheeky smile.
Oh c’mon. There’s no issue with it on first glance. You (or I) don’t know anything at all about his role in this. He could be just sitting in and listening in. We don’t know. We have no idea.
Welsh is the Director of Football, I have no issue at all with him being present at interviews. If he’s telling Rosa what to do, that’s an entirely different thing.
On what we know, it’s play on and let’s stop finding faults in every conceivable thing.
Welsh definitely seems alot more hands and involved, and in a position to be able to sell the club to players.
Couldnt picture Barham, Brasher, Tanner etc doing the same, doubt they’d know where to start.
So the ■■■■ laughed at you!
Board should not be involved in operations at all. As cal said, no other clubs had a board member present.
Let’s have welsh in the coaches box next year while we’re at it
I would support this. Anyone but Brad.
we understand captain-coach appointments, but we can be groundbreaking with new President-Coach appointment.
Agree, and there is nothing wrong with those responsible for governance to see how management is going in respect of the parameters set by the board.
Been on a few Boards both Government and Private. It depends what you mean by “operations”.
Board role to ensure all operations work according to goals and vision, and while they shouldn’t interfere they do need to know what is going on. Relying on a CEO report and financials could mean one day you end up in a mess. In the role of Director of Footy Welsh was responsible of advising Board on all footy issues, so I would assume this means time spent with Coaches, players etc.
Many times have I seen Boards snowed by CEO or Management to get their way.
I actually don’t mind it, it would be different if Welsh didn’t have AFL experience but he clearly is passionate and has a lot to bring to the table. I personally think it creates better alignment at the club. It’s also good to know our president is doing his due dillgence and not making uninformed decisions in a boardroom which I guess is what has been done in the past.
