To be fair, Solly did an apprenticeship as assistant coach at GWS for a few years.
I think Nino actually makes a decent point. I’m sure there are plenty of coaches available but which ones have a better rep that Dean Soloman? His reputation is very well established.

It’s about stability. Entered the seat in Feb left in October.
Made a decision in Feb to engage in a board position and only months later decided nah that’s not for me I want to coach.
Flip flopping.
Did we even go out to market at all? Probably not. So Solomon just waltzed himself into a six figure salary role after three years of no senior coaching because…. Reasons?
Hard to view this as anything other than fkg odd and stinky

Solomon will take charge of the backline and team defence, leveraging his proven successful track record as a player and coach to strengthen Essendon’s coaching ranks.
Essendon President Andrew Welsh said the Club was excited about Dean’s transition from board member into a coaching role.
“When looking to fill the vacant position within our coaching team, Brad (Scott), ‘Vozz’ (Craig Vozzo), Daniel (McPherson), and I were considering who is out there and the best available talent across the industry,” Welsh said.
“Not the best coach, but the best available coach”.

Yup. They considered the best talent. They sat in the board room and considered hard. Were there any applicants for the role? Any competitive process? Sounds like no.

On further recollection l believe you are right.
Article stated that Brad had been working for weeks to try and get Soloman to coach. This ‘nah that’s not for me I want to coach’ sounds like you wanting to be outraged!
