Possibly but doubtful at this stage. But it would just fit into the funding that is promised for those key infrastructure projects anyway.
They haven’t got much time.
Like like to point out that Brisbane 2032 is “currently” budgeted at $7.1 billion
Perhaps we’ve spent all the money building ugly over the top train stations that will be there for 200 years.
Are you questioning the rebuilding of those stations?
I think some of them are way over the top and ugly as hell. Just simply out of character for some of the suburbs they have been built in.
My point was that no one else wants them.
what the suits dream about having, and what is practically deliverable, are sometimes two very very different things.
for some reason both the state and federal govts have had a massive hard-on for building an msac-type joint in geelong/surf coast for years, and yet the councils have been screaming at them to fk off because they don’t want to run/manage such a facility. i’d assume this ongoing back and forth led to the (quite frankly very stupid) idea of a “temporary” facility that would never have actually happened.
the growth of armstrong creek has finally made greater geelong relent in something being built
i wonder what basil thinks the vic govt did
treasonous??

I know Credlin says some genuinely dumb ■■■■, but that has the whiff of parody about it.
Awesome take though. Is she a blitzer?
A high-ranking event industry official said the Victorian government had been repeatedly warned of a cost blow out by hosting the Commonwealth Games in regional areas.
“But the Victorian Government wouldn’t be told,” they said. “With the Games being hosted in so many different regional places, the cost was going to be five times the amount [of it being hosted solely in Melbourne].”
A case in point was the proposal of building a temporary velodrome in Bendigo when there is already an international velodrome at John Cain Arena in Melbourne.
“Event industry professionals always had eyebrows raised about why you would leave so many world class venues empty,” a source said. “They had all the infrastructure in and around Melbourne…”
“It was done to get votes for the election in regional Victoria, and so now, the actual cancelling is a smart political move, no one is fussed…but the sports will care…”
Are the Victoria L/NP criticising the decision to cancel the games?
I cant remember if they originally supported having them or not.
Pesutto mischaracterises the Commonwealth Games as a global event. It should be called the Colonial Games.
He’s not wrong
