yeah generally, the ch7 signalis upscaled, looks like ■■■■■
Stay away from those Hisense - shocking for motion and their Aus models are NOT the same as US models. They’ve been caught out lying about HDMI 2.1 compatibility and their screens are only 60Hz.
If you can find a 55Q8, last year’s model, they are far better than the 2021 crop. JB had them on clearance for around 1200, amazing TV.
Samsung are OK, if you can swing for a QN model that would be the way to go. However I’m fairly sure Samsung run VIDAA/Tizen(?) not android, so Kayo and the rest are a no go. Hisense may run VIDAA too
With a $1500 budget you could stretch for a Sony X90H or X90J - one of the best at the price point.
I’d also recommend checking out the TCL C825 - mini LED, great response time, VA panel, HDMI 2.1. I’m gonna grab one next chance I get
Edit: you could also say ■■■■ it and splash for an LG OLED if you’re feeling a bit fancy
Edit2: if your TV isn’t Android you can also get a Roku unit and run it through that
Edit3: all modern TVs have ■■■■ sound so don’t let that sway you. Invest in a good soundbar, even an average one will be better. I actually picked up a Hisense one from JB for like 200 and it thumps
I had a Hisense 75in before I left Oz a couple of years ago. I did a lot of research before buying it and it pretty well stacked up against the more expensive brands. I’d definitely buy one again. And you could afford to upgrade to 65 if you bought Hisense
You know what? Inspect and use the remote in store if you can(or look for photos online)
I mean there’s some fantastic looking TVs out there, but when your not lining them all up next to each other in the store, you won’t be noticing the picture differences at home when you have one to look at.
My criteria for shopping is a good factory warranty, good remote and good on screen menu. (Ie not slow and clunky). Because that’s what you live with.
Problem with that is a lot of floor models are set up to look great in store, then you get home and find out oh ■■■■ it’s an IPS Panel and looks crap in a dark room
Yeah I just appreciate a digital signal, i remember living with analogue.
That’s the one, great TV. Would still recommend HP’s advice and see it in person to get an idea, it doesn’t hurt
Maybe this belongs on the cooking thread. But what brands make a decent oven?
Is Westinghouse OK? I understand they are made in Adelaide.
I’m not a massive chef. What would I love by buying a fancy oven?
Yeah but even that, I really think you will settle in and enjoy a cheaper panel just fine as long as the remotes good, it’s starts up quick and the onscreen menu is good.(oh and of course has enough ports, which they all tend to do, maybe a fancier settings if your into video games like HDR10 and hdmi2.1 but unnecessary otherwise)
Like I cannot argue with that haha, IMO there is a big difference between a $500 and a $1500 TV. There is minimal difference between a $2500 and a $7500 TV though, if you’re just an average user you probably won’t notice or care. I game so am a bit of a nerd for specs.
For sports, my pick would be the Sony or TCL but everyone has different opinions, they’re all good units
You know half those features they make up with marginal difference to sell for thousands more to spec nerds
I think most tellies are very energy efficient these days. That’s worth noting if you watch a few hours every day. An efficient telly will pay for itself over say a 7 year life time if you give it a pounding. (That was the very credible argument for going LED over plasma back in the day, but I think it’s all OLED or LED now)
depends on what you have, gas freestanding is heaps different to in bench stuff
Don’t bother with a Miele. I got one at a great price, but still don’t think it was worth it. People do mention it by name and give a little nod when they see it though.
I’d get into one of those big box traders and see them all lined up. You want to check the seals, door closing mechanism, and how scratch resistant it is. Gas/electric/induction heaps of options.
Bah! I’m getting fired up now to buy a new tv that I don’t need.
I’ve only bought Sony lately, and both have been exceptional and haven’t missed a beat at 5 and 13 years.
No matter what you want, find the model, and just keep an eye out for sales. I found a forum a while back and some freak (probably a blitzer) had graphed prices of TVs by month over 8 years. I am pretty sure he found Oct/Nov is when prices are best, just before all the new (slightly improved) models come out.
Oz bargain is one site where people share deals and happily share receipts for price matching.
If you can’t be bothered with all of that, most big brand name, 55 screens at $1,500 are going to be pretty solid quality, and should have plenty of apps built in. (YouTube. Netflix,
you can always add a sound bar later I’d you find the tv speakers are insufficient. And as others have said, the speed of response in the control is a big one, worth testing in store.
used a samsung stove recently, felt much better than emilia freestander
An induction oven would be interesting!
We’ve got a Westinghouse oven and it’s been great over the last 6 years of use. Never had issue. Parents have the same model for a few mores more without issues too.
Westinghouse have always had great ovens and cooktops.
I am after a colour printer. I have $300 I can spend at officeworks. Please help.
the environment does the opposite of thanking you.
