I wouldnt get sonos now. Theyve been in tech news for some bad business decisions
The alternative isnāt terrible. A mini amp and passive speakers. But then I need somewhere for the mini amp to sit. And whilst I donāt hate on soundbars, itās not for me.
I have a pair of Apple Homepods as my surround sound connected to the appleTV. I love them, however, theyāre not perfect.
The spatial audio is incredible, and watching tv and movies have been transformative for me. Sound is clear and and immersive.
My only issue has been the dolby atmos. It sounds great but out of sync by a hair which becomes frustrating. Iām hoping a software update improves this. Perhaps Iāve not set it up properly, but every other non atmos show is fine.
After all your renos. Wire it
How about powered speakers? I got some Edifier R2750DBs and you plug the TV optical output into them or you can send other content via Bluetooth. Not a bad solution if you are on a budget. They make a bigger R2850 but the smaller ones fit on my TV stand perfectly
Yeah, Iām reading up on them, was set on the Klipsch 7, but theyāre $2K FFS.
Then I wanted the KEF.
The Edifiyer has good reviews, and probably better for the budget. As long as it has ARC and CEC
I am a bit concerned that if the on board amp shuts itself you just have a brick.
Iām just giving mine a test run in my new house. Iāve never had an open plan before so itās a bit different. Iām downstairs with the dog in the music room/study while Everclear is pumping out of the speakers upstairs. Not bad. For $250 theyāre good value.
I have a couple of scenarios. New bits are wired and ready. Old bits was gonna go wireless
I dunno how or why, but the only times I get these ads are when I connect Spotify to Sonos
Never on Bluetooth, never on Chromecast on the TV, never on airplay, only Sonos.
1500 isnāt a bad budget.
Aside from Sonos, Apple, Bose the other hifi you would consider would be sold through a specialty dealer.
So maybe just ring a couple up and ask them.
They may just say go the apple(or Sonos or Bose)
Or they may have something for you. Thereās big markups on hifi gear. Donāt expect you have to pay retail
Obviously there are number of scenarios to check here.
- Are you always using the spotify app from the same device? i.e phone or PC?
- There could be different ad blocking set ups across varying devices.
- Account details not being picked up properly. Try removing and reinstalling the app.
I know its probably frustrating but if you start looking at the source being responsible and not the device at the end you might be able to resolve it yourself.
Iād be keen to hear how you go, because I bet my left nut, itās not the speakers inserting ads.

Mrs THT wants a robot vac/mop thing.
FFS
Theyāre something like $3K
They work in small apartments but would never get one for a big house.
Stand your ground tht.
Offer to spend the 3k on a weekend away or somethingš
Our ecovacs was about $1k and works pretty well. Only a 3br house.
2 major gripes
The kids leave ā ā ā ā on the floor that it gets tangled in and you have to go and fix it
The self emptying function is not consistent at all and you have to manually empty it a lot of the time.
Yes I bought one. Iāve never got it to work properly despite hours searching online help.
How bigs your house?
Pay for an actual person to come every few weeks to vacuum/mop.
Itās actually kind of small. Plus a granny flat.
I went and bought a $100 floor steamer mop and polished from Aldi. Whilst the polisher bit was insanely slow (Iāll be returning it) the steam aspect was surprisingly good.
I donāt mind doing it. But sure as hell donāt want a $3K gadget.
im moving into a newly built 4 bed double story home this year, nbn & router will be sitting in a comms cabinet in the garage. Im currently using a cheapo 3 pack mesh system from Kogan.
Anyone used the Google Mesh system? https://store.google.com/au/config/nest_wifi_pro?hl=en-GB&selections=eyJwcm9kdWN0RmFtaWx5IjoiYm1WemRGOTNhV1pwWDNCeWJ3PT0iLCJoZXJvUHJvZHVjdHMiOltbIlgyNWxjM1JmZDJsbWFWOXdjbTlmYzI1dmQxOHpjR3M9IiwxLG51bGxdXX0%3D
Seems a little steep at $700.
You should get your house wired to support wireless APs with wired backend if its currently being built/finished, will deliver superior serive and if walls arenāt in yet be pretty easy for a sparky to add on top
Plaster is up now.
I have hardwired data points in living rooms and study. Thinking about coverage for mobile devices
Whatās an AP?
