Appliance Buying Guide: What's good and stuff

Vote 1 for BOSCH in dishwashing and clothes washing.

For TV I am a bit of a sucker for SONy, so can only recommend them.

Edit: I think Sony make some of the LG panels so they look good. For me it’s about the user interface and plug n play with other devices.

The reverse.

LG Display make the OLED panels that Sony use in the Bravia 8.

Samsung Display make the QD-OLED panels Sony use in the A95L and upcoming Bravia 8-II

Was just about to post that.

Agree the interface should be very high on the list of priorities.

I was annoyed with the Smeg. We paid $2k for it, and the repair was going to be “up to” $1400, with a 1 year parts guarantee. We only got 7 years out of it.

Definitely second that.

Our dishwasher is approaching 20yo and still going strong. The washer was replaced a couple of years ago after 15 years service.

Pfffft. My dishwasher is well over 60 years old and there’s still plenty of life in me.

I only got about 5 years out of my SMEG. Replaced it with a German-made Bosch.

Was listening to the radio in the car and they was an advertisement for a store that I didn’t know still existed. STAN CASH! Apparently there’s one out in Brooklyn. Had a look at their web page and they’ve got some good deals on TVs going at the minute.

Geez, that’s a blast from the blast… next thing you’ll be telling me Saba and Campbell’s Cash & Carry still exist.

A real throwback that name. There’s one in Keilor East as well.

I’ve checked out their prices online and both bought from and used them to get better price.

They do some good deals.

After spending a fortune on expensive TVs only for them to die well before their time, we’ve just bought Kogan smart TVs and they work fine. And if they die, it’s not a huge loss.

I’m pretty sure (well the last time I drove past) the Brooklyn Stan Cash has Billy Guyatt’s within it, too.

But no Chandler’s?

I completely get the saving money aspect, but I wouldn’t touch those dodgy farkers at Kogan with a barge pole.

Would rather just buy a cheaper brand or model line from a retailer, there are plenty of options.

Not really appliances but shokz are cool headphones.

I got a pair of shokz openswim pros.

Awesome for exercise. I can load up a podcast, album etc and listen to it crystal clear in the pool.

Also pretty good when running etc and having some spatial awareness at the same time.

We’ve also got a Smeg range. Thought we were paying for quality. But no. Never again.

So good. Very reliable and produces high quality food/dishes

Did you try a Samsung?

Thought about it. They are well specced.
Had a very bad run with new Sony TVs after not any issues with them for years before,

My parents bought a TV from them about 10-12 years back. I said I wished they’d asked me because it wasn’t a great reputation around then. Sure enough, got through the 12-month warranty…just. Got rid of it and bought a Panasonic.
