Appliance Buying Guide: What's good and stuff

Thanks. These are highly regarded.

These look like they’re on sale at the moment, $1,700 down from $2,300. I guess there’s a new model coming out.

Add the cheapest and smallest Tonewinner sub, cross it over at 80Hz or so. Done.

If sub time comes but you want something smaller and easier, though likely more expensive and less capable - The LSX II will have inbuilt settings for matching to Kef subs. So at some later point get the smallest and cheapest Kef sealed unit.

Be very hard to top that performance without sacrificing money, or footprint, or ease of use. Or all three.

All imo.

I know this is like a “how long is a piece of string” question, but how much does it cost to get a battery installed to collect solar power? I have spent half an hour on whirlpool and other sites but everyone seems to skate around the question - especially the suppliers. I have set up the house that we don’t use much power but it is annoying that our solar provides the energy company with free power during the day while they slug us mightily for the little we use in the evening.

There are a lot of discounts and rebates on batteries, but may be only available if you haven’t already used the rebates for the panels etc.

I did it all at once so took the much bigger rebate on the battery (10kwh).

Thanks to the Federal rebate, solar battery installers are really pushing installations at the moment. I have gotten several unsolicited emails with battery offers.

I have attached a link from one of the emails I received because it shows some prices. Basically, you can get a cheap brand of battery installed for $6000 or more expensive brands, with prices going up to $12,000.

I am sure you will be able to shop around and get better prices, but this might help give you a start by working out whether you want to go cheap or expensive, and if so, some brands at that pirce point. Good luck.

This site was really handy for us for solar panels. Tho, rather than getting their recommended one, I just scrolled through the top rated ones in my area and checked them out.

Jet Solar FTW

Also worth shifting from gas HWS to electric, if you haven’t already done so.

I’m sorry. But this is inverse to my ‘all the gear, and no idea’ philosophy.

I am happy to facilitate this sickness. I can point you towards a sub the size of a fridge if you really want to.

Go the Kef KC62 then. More expensive, but will match perfectly with LSX IIs and and won’t take up space.

I’d love to know as well. I have a couple of quotes currently with nothing under $10k

Finding its about $1k per 1kwh.

I can’t get a fully itemised quote either which frustrates me - because my sceptical side is convinced the rebate is moving into “increased” installation costs.

In the market for a new TV, what’s the best one for sport watching under $3k?

I just bought a Sony Bravia 65in. I love it. Special EOFY deal at Harvey Norman for $1695

My trusty Kogan 65in developed a weird flicker overnight. It’s around 8 years old and hasn’t skipped a beat up to this point so that’s around $70 a year.

Debating whether to go cheaparse again or look for a second hand Sony / Samsung / LG.

I use it for watching pillaged and plundered goods and for Essendon games. I can’t justify new good brand TV money.

Will probably go for a dumb screen as it’s permanently connected to my laptop anyway.

I am a bit of a Sony fanboi, and I can recommend them as well.

They do have different levels, but all pretty damn good.

Swapped out my 15yo Sony Bravia in January for a Samsung 65inch OLED. Watching the footy in 4K is brilliant. No regrets so far, just hope it can last as long as the Bravia, which is still being used by a young relative.

From the minimal research I have done, it seems Sony are meant to be the best for sport watching and Samsung not so much. I have had a Samsung TV for about 9-10 years and it’s really struggling to keep up with the ball now for footy and cricket, especially when streaming.

I did similar, had the 42 Bravia for 12 years, now it’s going to the pool room

Do you have a size in mind?

65 inch. Anything bigger will look a bit ridiculous on my wall.
