I’ve got no issue with someone getting a promotional position at another club. I just get p*ssed off when our ex-assistant coach gets a head coaching position then decides to poach our other coaching staff, players and back room staff.

Why is everyone so precious about coaches deciding to choose a different place of work?If we had contracts that restricted employees on using IP obtained at previous workplaces what would the point be of bringing in a fresh face to coach the club?
“Ok, great to have you on board Woosha… in line with our contract, don’t mention or use any of the knowledge you picked up at your 18 years at West Coast and couple of years at Adelaide. I’m glad we have you on board!”
Egan has gone, we will get a new guy, and when he/she leaves we’ll be saying “why did X club poach Y coach after 5 years at Essendon! Blasphamy!”

I was referring more to having our lunch cut at the draft with McCartney. Where he reportedly knew we were into Tory Dickson and another player or two and got in before we did. I have no real issue with other uses of IP gained from clubs that coaches/assistants have worked at eg tactics. I seem to recall sos was in the process of changing clubs (maybe going from the aints to GWS) and there was a stipulation that he could not do any work in recruiting at his new club until after that off season’s trade period because it was thought he knew too much of the plans of his previous club.
Clubs are inserting clauses into retiring player’s contracts about not being able to play at another AFL club for a certain amount of time, I think since we convinced Mal Michael to come back after retiring from the lie-ons.
