I enjoyed Gladiator 2.
I like your taste in movies.
once upon a time in america 4hr edition
Donnie Darko… One of my all time favs.
For those on the IPTV discussion; I just installed stremio w/ torrentio (real-debrid) as an alternative to paying for all my streaming services individually. Has anyone else tried this method with any success?
Also looking for any recommendations for Kayo alternatives / discounts etc…? Currently my most expensive subscription and keen to reduce it if possible.
Interesting film. Only 90mins. Cage was good. Left a few unanswered questions. Overall I enjoyed it. 7.5/10
Alien Romulus
If there’s nothing else to watch, give it a go. My kid and his mates thought it was good.
6-6.5 / 10
I guess if it was a standalone movie, this could be pretty decent. There was a bit to like (the sets and visually stunning space scenes, you know there’s gonna be some chest busting action, theres some throw backs to Alien 1 which I didn’t expect) , and a bit to dislike (some of the dialogue, some of the cast). It’s kind of new and I don’t know how to do the spoiler blurred text thing so won’t go into details, but…
In general what I don’t like about big budget movies for dumb people (like this one) is where they make something that would ordinarily be a bit random, make it very obvious and specific and they focus on it, then later in the movie that one weird thing is really critical. Like in Harry Potter when they learn a new spell at the start, you know that’s the one that’s going to be super important to saving the day. There’s a touch of that here, which annoyed me more than it should have.
Was good expect for the ships in the colosseum scene and the mention of Poseidon
Did anyone see Heretic?
(Is it worth a look?)
Hugh Grants latest
Good atmosphere, Grant’s good, as are the girls, pretty unique horror film with a good sense of humour
hard to answer, because i assume everyone else loves armageddon, con air and the f&f series as much as i do
I watched “A good person” last night on SBS Demand. Rated it. Something about Morgan Freeman’s voice is just relaxing. All the performances were solid. Worth watching.
“The Return” with a stupendously ripped and melancholy Ralph Fiennes, my kind of movie but I reckon most people will get something out of it. Ulysses’ return to Ithaca after 10 years at Troy and drifting. Loved it. Shot in remote sections of Corfu.
Interestingly, after seeing it, was reading about Nolan’s next film which will be based on the Odyssey. Will be more of an electric affair I imagine but will have to be something special to beat The Return.
I watched that a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t think Fiennes was all that great; he’s not an action hero; and the son was a bit soft around the waist. But Juliette Binoche was outstanding, looking every inch the Greek queen, and the story has of course stood the test of time.
I don’t think he was meant to be an action hero. A hero of sorts but it’s a nuanced reading of the text. The son is grown resentful in his absence and has been raised by his mother and had largely feeble and old men as role models as all the strong men were fed to Troy. It’s not an action movie. Maybe should’ve posted in the skivvy movie thread!
I know it’s not an action movie, but Odysseus is a great warrior and proves he entitlement to the throne by feats of strength.
Sure, and he does so at the end, but this is the war ravaged, destitute and bereft Ulysses. Just a man ruined by death , violence, deprivation and guilt. In any case I loved it, no big budgets, just atmosphere and a very believable ancient Greek environment. Agreed on Juliette, she’s a genuine queen
Hadn’t actually heard of this but added it to the watchlist for tonight, cheers
Let’s agree to disagree. I liked all of those things, and I would add the absence of CGI effects, which I loathe.
I would have gone for an actor who has a real body, but can also act with subtlety and nuance. Schwarzenegger for example. (Joke, just in case you were wondering.)
I gave it a nose laugh, which is an effort for me watching cricket on the couch right now.
