It all makes sense now
Lee (2024) Kate Winslet, Andy Samberg, Alexander Skargard, Marion Cotillard.
Based on the life of Lee Miller, a former Vogue model who becomes a war correspondent during WW2.
Small budget British movie that took over eight years to make due to funding issues.
This is a movie that tells a story without fuss, explosions, car chases etc…and it’s damn good (imo) with Winslet in the lead role. She is very good in this (again, imo).
Well worth watching 8/10
Streaming service?
DVD I borrowed from my local library.
Edit: From what I can see, it is not available on any streaming service for free.
This site shows it as being available to “rent” from Apple
Indie sci-fi fans have all seen Primer by now, right?
If that’s your jam, I don’t need to recommend it to you at this late stage…
Any movie with Marion Cotillard.
Two Days One Night, directed by the Dardenne Brothers, is about her best.
Les fantômes d’Ismaël was one I saw at a film festival.
Bit strange, co-starred Matthieu Amalric who played JJA in The Bureau. Also starred Charlotte Gainsbourg.
One of those 3 nuded up.
10 things i hate about you.
Heath Ledgers best
Toxic Avenger - 1984
Ok, so it’s either aged terribly, or terribly well. If you can’t be bothered watching the movie, just watch the trailer which captures all you need to know.
Must see as a cult classic, but wouldn’t recommend to the majority of people.
Gee Chopping Mall, now Toxic Avenger and what next? Sleepaway Camp, Scanners or Slumber Party Massacre maybe?
Ive been on a bit of a binge myself of some 80s classics that I had never seen before. Recently watched for the first time King of Kickboxers, No Retreat No Surrender 1-3, Maniac Cop 1-2 if youre looking for some ideas for your next watch @tinhillterror
Happy to take any recommendations. The problem is that it was so long ago I can’t recall ‘the classics’ and then there’s sequels, prequels, remakes and spoofs that use almost the same name.
Bluddy Hell…we have the “Movies of a more arthouse/Black skivvy wanker type of genre”
Maybe we need one called “Movies so bad even your mother-in-law wouldn’t like them”
@tinhillterror could be the moderator of such a thread with his “interesting” taste in movies.
Oohhh
Looks brilliant!
I’ll nominate:
Surf Nazis Must Die
Demons 2, and
Blood Beach off the top of my head.
Bloodsucking Freaks felt like you were committing a crime just watching it.
I would be nearly keen for a Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, but I think they nailed that series, even pre CGI
Still havent watched this one or the first, really hoping to catch them on the big screen like I did with Phantasm and 120 days of Sodom. Missed them when they were most recently shown at the Astor Halloween movie marathon probably 4-5 years ago now.
