At the movies - From the couch

Or if you hate the movie so much, just leave. Don’t use your phone while you are in the cinemas.

It’s just common courtesy

Finally figured out what Robbo does for a living.

Strangest film review so far… and from the sounds of it the review has more drama than the film.

I seem to be in the minority here but I can’t see the problem in @Hurleys_Taxi_Driver operating his phone whilst it’s on silent in a virtually empty cinema.

Apart from a few posters here, who did he upset?

Did either of the other two attendees complain?

If not, then I don’t see a problem.

Each situation is different and requires different responses (imo)

The implication is that if the cinema is full they’d still be the type on their phone.

That’s a mighty long bow to draw.

But I suppose some people just like the drama.

Tbh I don’t care. If it affects me in the cinema I tell them to turn it off. My issue is why do people stay in a movie for something they’re clearly not enjoying. To the point of breaching social etiquette to post about it. And no being proudly cheap isn’t a justifiable reason. Leave ask for a refund and go about your day.

Hey…do you have to be so loud while you’re eating?

Have a care for others in the thread who are trying to listen

Its not an implication, its an assumption. And an incorrect one. Discretion and consideration is shown in the circumstance . If the 2 other cinema attendees were in any sort of eyeline to be distracted, I would not have done it. I do wonder though why the cinema sacrasanct? Do these people who are complaining use their phones at home when their family and friends are watching tv or movie? Whats the difference? My honest opinion is, if nobody is disturbed or inconvenienced, then no harm.

Blitz etiquette lessons. This might be a first.

It was probably okay this time, but it’s a really bad habit, even if you think you’re not in anyone’s direct line of sight. In a dark cinema, what is really annoying and distracting about someone having their phone on is the flashes of light that appear intermittently. They’re annoying to anyone sitting behind the phone, or beside it, even if the flashes are only on the very edge of that person’s peripheral vision. It’s nothing like sitting watching TV with someone who’s using their phone because TV is almost always watched with the light on, which means that the phone screen does not throw out flashes of light.

For me, the difference is people pay money to go sit in the cinema. It’s not cheap, especially for people like me that also insist on popcorn and drinks :joy:

FWIW I don’t think it was a big deal, it was an empty cinema and there wasn’t anyone that could be distracted by it. If they were sitting behind you, regardless of it being only 1 or 2 people, I’d have a different opinion.

I turn my phone off when I go to a movie. It’s why I’ll often go to a movie when Essendon is playing (and I think they’ll get belted or lose to Carlton by a point) - there’s no chance of me keeping track of the score.

But if we’re talking pet peeves at the movies - people who sit behind you and rest their feet on your arm rest. Wtf is wrong with those people!

Anywayz, all that aside, it is a very ordinary movie that did not improve, and I reccomend to nobody. Maybe some kids might like it. For anyone else I suspect it will test your etiquette staunchess.

Watched Gringo last night (Netflix). Directed by Nash Edgerton with Joel Edgerton & Charlize Theron featuring along with David Oyelowo. Quite enjoyable and watchable.

Saw Wonder Woman 2 last night, I enjoyed it. Started off pretty slow, but the 2nd half was very enjoyable

I saw it last night too. And enjoyed it! Probably the best movie I’ve seen recently in the cinema (The Witches and Superintelligence being the other two so…low bar).

Gal Gadot is great for the role.

Virginia Hall is my hero, enjoyed watching “A call to spy.”
