Based of the casting, that could be Phoebe Waller-Bridge. That chick is awesome at everything she does, so her having a serious role is actually a huge positive in my eyes.
Im not saying Pacino isnt a great dramatic actor, but just a lot of his movies dont really show it.
Deniros early stuff, some of Sean Penns work, both Hoffmans, and although some hate him the poster boy of dramatic acting Tom Hanks, Streep, Winslet etc- all capable of being extremely nuanced and portraying emotion and conveying drama without being overly theatric about it

Agree with those. Young Pacino & De Niro were as good as all of them IMO.
Young Micky Rourke too. But, he went insane.
Honestly, Harrison Ford is nearly 80. It will be his last time playing Indy. What’s the downside in creating a new character to make a future movie about? They tried it with Shia LaBoeuf and he then went and became a nutcase in the real world. I just reckon Waller-Bridge will do something really interesting and watchable with the role. That is if she’s not playing a villain.

Replacing Indy with a female is just a quick cash grab imo. I’m sure the actress would prefer to play/create her own character.

I get you. Disney is incredibly risk averse. They’ll pretty much only green light a film right now if it’s based on an existing intellectual property.

I would be all about a female Indy as long as they’re true to the character.
I think a bumbling, introverted archeology professor that all the students are in love with totally works.
I’d even recreate the student with writing on her eyelids scene and I wouldn’t change her gender.
As long as there are nazis, and episodic adventure climaxes, and ‘This belongs in a museum!’ then I’d love to see that.
If they play it tacky though, especially with the whip, or make her flawless, then I don’t want a bar of it.

They are going to milk those ips dry just so they can make their money back quickly from when they purchased 20th Century Fox

Disney can’t do anything worse to the Predator or Alien IPs than Fox has done over the past (counts on fingers, runs out of fingers, count on toes, runs out of toes…) thirty-odd years.

that sucks, i was looking forward to it. I don’t care if the movie is average (cough Crystal Skull), i just love watching the Indiana Jones character. Watched the first 3 the past few weeks. They still stand up very well. The first one has one of the greatest villains of all time
If they try and reinvent it with a female lead it will bomb and bomb big

Pacino is a great actor, and I’m prepared to internet fight anyone who disagree’s. Pacino can play multiple roles, De Niro is too one note

A female Indy may bomb, but if it does then it will be because they’ve strayed from Indy tropes.
If they stay true to the character and the adventure then it should do fine. Maybe even better than if a young male was given the lead.
And while we’re on the subject…sort of…I’m so disappointed that Spielberg has decided to go
a) 1950’s
b) lurid colours, and
c) musical theatre
…with West Side Story.
It’s such a cop-out.
Do the songs, sure. But the racial themes do not need to be set seventy years ago, they work now.
And it’s a story about racism and gangs and murder and rape, ffs.
Maybe we needed to pretty that up back then, but it’s weak as ■■■■ to do it now.
I want West Side Story. I’ve wanted it for…decades.
