At the movies - From the couch

What did the 1950’s version do to Romeo and Juliet, of which it’s an updating.

Such a great movie with some unforgettable scenes. Alec Baldwin and the watch :joy:

It is, but it isn’t.
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you the differences.

And Luhrmann already did Romeo and Juliet.
And he didn’t set it back then, either.

I don’t want Tarantino WSS, but I sure as hell don’t want Luhrmann WSS either.
I’d have preferred Spielberg to do…his version of Tarantino’s WSS. It’s not like he can’t do gritty.

Edit: I was really excited when I heard Spielberg was doing it.
Because I thought I was going to get the Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Munich version of it.
Which is the version I want to see.

But he’s just decided to do a remake.
I’m sure it will be good because of course a major studio version of it is going to be good.
It’s a great script.

It’s just that it could have been great. Important.

Noah Hawley has got a pretty good track record when it comes to television. His Alien tv series is probably exactly what that franchise needs. I don’t think it could survive another Ridley Scott prequel.

Female Indy - Jungle Cruise…perfect

Agree! Where has all the Pacino shade come from.
Serpico was his best acting performance imo

I thought there was a whole subplot in Heat of Pacino’s character being a coke head that was cut out of the film

I liked Pacino in the first two Godfather films (obviously), Scarecrow, Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon (although I haven’t watched the latter two in a good few years). I’m wondering if anyone has seen Revolution (1985, I think). A big production, but apparently it’s really awful. I wanted to give it a spin, but had some trouble tracking it down…

I found it on dvd ages ago, haven’t watched it yet though.

WTF !

Lol.
You didn’t like it?
I thought it was a good example of how crossovers can work.
If all the characters are treated with respect.

Lol, each to their own I guess.

Al Pacino is brilliant in Carlito’s Way.

Not sure l want to see it after the mess they made of Indiana Jones 4. That was all over the shop and really impacted the legacy of the first three, in a negative way.

Yep, and Panic At Needle Park, as well as those numerous films previously mentioned. Not a good dramatic actor though apparently.

l saw it once, over thirty years ago, so it is stretching the memory to recall much about it. Mostly l remember the two dimensional characterization and the stereotyping of the villain. For some strange reason Pacino does a fair bit of narrating, not sure what that was about. It looked glorious, but lacked substance despite the big budget for the time. For all that it is man times better than The Patriot, which was simply dreadful.

He was also good on The Insider.

Dune. So very very glad that the best modern director got that gig. Did the book justice, looks amazing, works for someone coming in blind.

You saw it already? How?

It fell off the back of a pirate ship.
