Really?
Was planning on watching as many nominated films as I could, so that’s disappointing.
Just realised Whiplash was nominated last night, and that was recommended to me by a few people months ago, so…maybe that or Sniper.
I have no desire to see Grand Marigold Hotel(?) based on the name alone.

Yeah I want to see Whiplash as well. Not many places showing it either.
Take out the same actors over 12 years gimmick and Boyhood is just another midday movie.
Grand Budapest Hotel was ordinary too. It’s quirky and a bit strange and quite frankly crap

Grand Marigold or Grand Budapest Hotel?
Marigold was average, Budapest was a wonderful comedy. Lots of neat little things going on in that one.

There's a Second Best Marigold Hotel which seems to be yet another payment for England's superannuation actors.
The first one was pleasant enough, and I expect the second to be no better.
Grand Budapest Hotel was incredibly over-rated in my opinion, as a lot of Wes Anderson movies are. It was OK and pleasant, but not much more.
As a director he is hit or miss. l loved The Life Aquatic with Bill Murray in superb form, while the Darjeeling Limited was hollow and appeared pointless. I liked Grand Budapest more than Tenenbaums, (although l might be in a minority on that one), and also more than Fantastic Mr. Fox. l rate it about the same as Moonrise Kingdom.

Sniper was good.
I don’t know if it was Best Film good, and I have no desire to see it again, but I don’t think many would find it disappointing.
Had no idea it was Eastwood directing.
One little thing that has cropped up…in Imitation and Sniper there are scenes that jar you out of the movie.
Imitation can perhaps be more easily forgiven because it’s crap CGI of recently bombed London, I imagine that might be difficult and expensive to do much about, but the American Sniper scene where the baby daughter is clearly a $5 plastic doll from K-Mart…that’s pretty ■■■■.

agree, mrsfti and myself had the exact same conversation, why spend millions on the movie product only to cheap out on that.
you want realism Wim, watch Whiplash, that kid who plays the lead character plays 95% of the drumming in that movie himself, which is amazing, only the really hard fusion stuff did they have to only do a few audio overdubs, its still his hands. to cast a actor who could not only drum but is that good of a drummer makes that movie get 100% buy in.

Yeah, I should have seen that by now.
Will remedy that tonight!
Then I’ve probably seen all I want to see for now.

I rated Moonrise Kingdom as weird and creepy.
Damn straight. Not even Bill Murray could save it.
Went and saw American Sniper tonight. Some great performances. It shows both sides of war…the incredible bonds forged between comrades, but all the damaging psychological effects.
I’d forgotten the ultimate upshot, but it came back to me after reading about it.
